The problem with the Patriot act is it can be misused and turned into a political weapon too easily, as it would seem with the Obama administration. But now that the shoes on the other foot, it has the left scared silly. Not only now it may be used against them, but also that with the currant Congressional investigations going on, may expose criminal excesses with illegal access into American citizens private phone calls, and the Trump campaign, and passing that information on to the Clinton campaign in a election year. Now, if proven true, should scare the crap out of you knowing top officials of the FBI, and Intelligence Services, may have conspired to influence the outcome of a Presidential election.

Allow me to rephrase your answer "When it was passed (in 3 days from introduction to passage) it was okay because it was a republican administration in charge. When a democrat took office, it was bad because it was being abused. Now that we have a republican clown in office, all is good again.

Funny thing about the constitution...and something lefty liberals like myself were TRYING to point out way back when....if you pass something that tramples the constitution while the GOOD GUYS are in office, you leave the door wide open for abuse when the BAD GUYS take office. Our forefathers had the foresight to see that. But when some of us were warning you about it, we were America hating terrorist supporters. Had the right heeded that warning, the "abuse" exercised by the democratic administration would have been "illegal". It wasn't. Thank the Patriots for that one.

How would the wall have prevented the 9/11 attacks. A comment was made by a person who apparently SUPPORTED the Patriot act because we needed to stop the thread to terrorism in the US. You said we didn't need the Patriot Act....we needed better border security. So would better border security have stopped the 9/11 attacks.

As for people crossing the border to work....why don't we try THIS novel idea - fine the hell out of the businesses that employ them. Right now, they get caught, they get sent back, and the employer hires another batch of illegals. Why don't we assess a fine so high that it threatens the very existence of the company....big or small? If they are stupid enough to hire another bacth, second offenders get jail time. In the case of a corporation, it's the top execs. And not country club prison time, but "don't drop the soap" prison time, where the only conjugal visits you'd get were with another inmate. Once you take away the demand for illegal labor, you will see the supply dwindle. Much as you might like to think that the only reason they come here is to get on welfare, they are actually pretty hard workers. Take away the work and they won't come here.

No KC! Don't try and put words in my mouth! I don't want you "rephrasing" anything! Thank you! One thing we do agree on is that the controls on unmasking American citizens has to be tightened. It has been abused by those same individuals who the Act was supposed to protect. And it would seem, at the highest levels of our Government. And by doing so tried to influence the outcome, and eventual overthrown, of a duly elected President. There is another name for this, it's called "sedition"!

I can't speak for where you live but here they use temporary services to get around that.

Whirlpool/Bama does not care if the government catches them with illegals because they were provided by temp services.

This is exactly why I have such a problem with temp services (i.e. contract labor agencies). You get it now?

There is also the issue of widespread use of temp services and illegal labor depressing wages in this area.

As far as migrants not targeting welfare, you are living in a fantasy world. One look at the EU migration will tell you they target welfare.
