WTF? Another idiot goes to NK? If this nimrod really went over there on his own he deserves what he gets. I don't know if the reports are accurate but if he is some religious nut job trying to get more converts for the flock, NK can have him as far as I am concerned.

Darwin really needs to step it up. Gene pool is getting a bit murky.

North Korea says it's holding American

South Korea.
Ever Notice that the only major asian country that went went "bonkers" over christianity was/is south korea.

Maybe it has something to do with our "saving" them in the Korean War.

(First you "save" them, then you REALLY "Save" them)

But who is going to save them from being saved?
Oh how i much love the ever popular fad of being AOD (Atheist on Demand). The PC moral outrage kicks in when needed to protect all of us from the overly oppressive "GOD" factor.

Coincidentally it is those same people that will turn to (or pray to) GOD when they or a loved one suddenly has a life event: ie stricken with fatal illness, tragic accident, murder, rape, mayhem, etc., and faced with staring into the eyes of the grim reaper.

I ignore most of your posts but but I'll bite on this one.

I am not sure what poll you took and how the questions were addressed You do have a poll to verify that claim right?) but I can assure that this is one atheist who has not asked your god or anyone else's for anything. When my mother was dying of amyloidosis 4 years ago I did not pray/ask/talk to god. I accepted the frailty of the human body and sought to make her as comfortable as possible.

When my father and mother were in the concentration camps in Nazi Germany, my father nor my mother prayed to god for their life. My father told me on several occasions that if the camps and his experience proved anything to him, it was that there is no god and that the cruelty of man knows no bounds. My mother, grandmother and aunt (all of whom were in the camps as well) agreed with him.

Secondly, just because I say 'god damn it' or 'Jesus Christ' in a fit of frustration or anger does not mean that I believe in it. In times of desperation, people will turn to things that they normally would not. That does not equate belief.

Thirdly. I used to put a tooth under my pillow and look for Easter eggs with my friends. I grew up and learned that there was no bunny. No tooth fairy, no Santa or Hanuka Harry. Zeus and Apollo were also fiction. I believe that god falls into that category as well. You do not. I honestly do not care what you or anyone else believe to be true so long as you keep it private and out of the public domain to which I pay taxes as well. Why you are so concerned as to what we atheists believe and are so dead set determined to prove that we "believe" as well is beyond me.

Fourth. Do you think there are any religious people who in times of desperation turn away from god? Does that make them an atheist in the same way that an atheist who turns to god in a moment of weakness becomes religious? Or is that just a one way street for you?

Why do I have a feeling that...Garfield was NOT promoting his non-believer status, but may have been (perhaps) making a slight reference in the direction of hypocracy ?

(Garfield, please correct me if I'm wrong)
(Thanx)

Yes and no.

I know my being an atheist ticks some off on this board so I enjoy taking a jab every now and then.

How ever my main point is that religion is the last thing the NK's need. They need food, a way to get information from the rest of the world and the belief that they can break free. It is not my opinion that religion will assist them in any of those endeavors but server to enslave them to a different master.

Secondly, a time of desperation is not an accurate measurement of ones character. I was trying to fix my internet conx one time. I finally broke down and called tech support. I know I know. Big mistake. Anyway, one of the instructions was to take the Cat 5 off the modem and PC and switch the direction on it. I know, dumbest thing I ever heard. The cables are not directional. I knew it then and I know it now.... I still did it because who knows.... just may be...Nope.... it did not work. I knew it wouldn't but did it anyway. Ended up being the modem and I brought it in to be tested and they swapped it out.

As I asked and Dapoes failed to answer, is one who is religious and turns away as much of an atheist as one who is not religious and turns to god in a time of desperation. I do not believe so.

Not sure how I forgot, but I was also held up at gun point in 1989. Actually, two gun points. No religious epiphany then either. I was just hoping that that the security rent a cops did not show up and that it would not hurt too much when I got shot. Did not end up getting shot and no guards showed up. Lost $6 and a money clip.

IMHO I think the guys heart is in the right place. However I also think he is incredbily naive.

This is an example of a "time of desperation"? Because you couldn't connect to the internet? Are you serious?

You haven't asked me anything. Rather go on some ludicrous diatribe (again) about your internet connection or something, etc...

A fine post Garfield.

It's called an analogy. Get over your self. If you look up the definition it makes no mention of life needing to be at risk. I had tried all that I could to get it fixed so I called tech support. Due to the fact that I had tried everything I could and nothing worked, I followed the advice of the tech. Besides, if you don't like that example there is always the time I was held up at gun point or the fact that my family was in the concentration camps. Take your freaking pick. Unfortunately, I have never been desperate enough to seek salvation in a fairytale so I cannot really come up with a better analogy for you.

OH, pardon me, it would appear you already have. You cherry picked the tidbit that fit your agenda and ran with it. Pretty much par for the course.

You quoted the question now answer it. While your at it, why not post some thing that the supports your assertion that there are no atheists in fox holes. I already gave 6 examples that contradict that assertion.

Then, after you do that, why not learn how to present an argument and not use veiled insults and innuendo.
