NMB Approves Single Carrier Status At Alaska

After another successful integrated single carrier nego contract by AMFA, the NMB certifies Alaska/Virgin as a single carrier status. Just another milestone to cross off the "to do" list with AMFA. Just some finalizing left with seniority integration and retirement blending left to do. Congrats to the fellow AMT's and related at Alaska for achieving this milestone...

December 18, 2019 -- Today, on December 18th, we received final notification that effective October 24th, 2019, the National Mediation board recognizes our single carrier status – designating the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) as the sole representative body for Alaska’s maintenance technicians, inspectors, tech helpers, and janitors. This decision is the last step in the process that determines December 18th as the transition effective date as ratified during the vote that took place in July.

“This is fantastic news for all of us and a testament to the hard work and collaboration with AMFA and all of our technicians." said Constance von Muehlen, Senior Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering, "This is a significant integration milestone. I am grateful to our team of AMTs who are at the heart of our operation and skillfully deliver safe and compliant maintenance for both our fleets.”

"Following successful negotiations with Alaska Airlines regarding its recent merger with Virgin America, AMFA applied to the NMB for single carrier status of the craft or class of Aircraft Mechanics and related employees in June, and today the NMB granted AMFA’s application. We look forward to continuing its representation of all Aircraft Mechanics and Related employees at the newly merged carrier," said Bret Oestreich, AMFA National Director. “We join with Alaska's management in welcoming new AMTs, and we look forward to a prosperous future at Alaska Airlines."

All parties worked hard to listen to and address the issues that were brought forth during this process and are very happy to have the single carrier status approved. The next steps will be to finalize the integrated seniority list (ISL), enact the 401K benefit changes, and update the Peoplesoft company and job codes for our legacy Airbus technicians. We will continue to work on cross training and integration efforts while Local 14 and Local 32 representatives schedule roadshows to meet with our newest AMFA members.
