What's new

No more 737-300s

I am glad to see these decrepit, worn out old horses sent to the glue factory. They were a pain to service compared to the Airbus and their interiors were an embarrassment. I always thought the 737 was butterface anyway...

Don't remember which -200's had the 2L stairs (didn't they also originally have the stairs up front but under the floor with an external door/flap that opened whey they were extended?). I remember the table with lounge seating for 4 up front too.

Yep. I'm pretty sure it was Gordon Bethune's decision to remove the forward airstairs to save weight and maintenance. I forgot about the table.

When I was a kid I thought the 737 was boring. I liked the FH227 and YS-11 as they gave a much more active ride!

I thought it happened before Gordo came to PI. In fact, I'm not sure any of the fwd stairs were still there when I was hired but I went to the panel so didn't fly the 200 or on it very much. Just remember the little hatch under the 1L door where they originally were. The memory of the table/seating comes from well before I was hired and getting on a -200 in FAY (and I could swear it was a wrap-around "booth" style seat that accomodated 1 facing forward, 2 facing sideways, and 1 facing aft).

I think it was in the early 80's that they got rid of them. I will check with my go to guy, my Dad. He remembers stuff like that as if was yesterday.

I found a picture on airliners.net of a PI 737-200 on the ramp at LYH with a Henson B99. It has the forward airstairs extended. It has the date of 1985, and that would be about right with a Henson B99. Wasn't sure copyright covers a link.

Gordo came to PI in the mid to later 1983 I think, since I first met him when I was a check engineer and that was was basically in 1983.

Dad says he thinks it originally had 94 seats, did have the table and some didn't like flying backwards. and it was Gordo that decided to take the airstairs out.

I drove a couple out to the desert yesterday. I understand these older ones have so many cycles on them that it is less expensive to recycle the aluminum vs. de-skin/inspect/re-skin. Some of the younger ones will have C checks done and re-leased to other carriers.

Here is a video of N156AW being torn to pieces....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imE4hYiIdzs

I think I flew that airplane after it was written up and downed by a CA for a bulb out in the voltmeter. Perspective.

Wow, this post is making me feel OLD....
I remember when PI got their first new 733, and what a big deal it was at the time. Now here were are scrapping them 25 years later...

I got hired in 1986 and remember seeing one.
