Hi, who on here can give me an accurate description on what to expect as I've heard the no-show factor was about 10 percent on transatlantic flights, or is that just a myth?We were looking to fly to Venice about the end of may.

You cant say something like a blanket 10% noshow factor on these flights since there are quite a few variables. Is there a group booked? (High season and a group usually means fewer chances for noshows unless everyone does). Is there a cruise out of VCE the day after you get there? (Less noshows). The end of May isnt really into full season for Europe, but it will be close. I'd keep an eye on the bookings a couple set stages out (3 weeks, 2 weeks, a week) and then see where they actually end up on day of dept. Of course, you'll have to factor in any flight cancellations due to weather issues or a maint that might have a lot of people. If you dont want to get that worked up about it just keep an eye on it and be flexible if possible.

Thank you for the advise guys. Having only 1 flight a day to vce with connecting from the west coast makes it a stressful situation. We are going to try and arrange our vacation on an off day when the loads look decent.

Why not just purchase a ZED ticket from Lufthansa? They are ZED-ZL since they are Star partners. Not much more than flying on us. Just connect in FRA and on to VCE. I have never been bumped from an LH flight.

PM me with dates and I can find a wide open flight for you perhaps.

With LH, you don't have to deal with the attitudes of our f/as. Drinks are free, too. B)

You can catch a train or plane to FCO if things don't work out.

Keep a grip on your good stuff on the train.

Do you have access to the Employee Travel Center (ETC)?

If so, look at the AU (authorized booking level) for the flight - the difference between that and the actual capacity is the forecast (emphasis on forecast) number of no-shows that revenue mgmt expects there will be for that flight. The number/percentage above capacity will differ by destination, directionality, day of week, and time of year, among other things.

Hey 28 I don't know what work group you are a part of, but as a flight attendant I take offense to your blanket indictment of our work group. We have some very professional and highly committed professionals in our ranks here at US who, at the end of a long day, leave all of their blood and sweat on the floors of the galleys we toil in. I don't know if you've ever flown LH, or if you know of any flight attendants who work for LH as I have, but if so you'd know that they'll bite you on your behind faster and harder than most of us here at US Airways. So watch your ill-informed propoganda.

Please don't hijack the thread with another topic.

To Black Magic: LAX has 2 flights per day to FRA and 1 to MUC. The seat maps show that FRA to VCE are wide open from both German cities. LAX to Germany is looking good, as well, even on busy days.

I fly LH whenever I have a chance. They are very good. My favorite airline. Germans love me!

Thanks for the tip 28L. I will look into LH as an option, as I've heard similar reviews. One other quick question...On Transatlantic flights that are overbooked in coach but have seats open in first class does the gate agent automatically upgrade people to first class or will they send the plane out with those seats open. I've practically given up listing for 1st class on domestic as people are always upgraded "chairman, platinum, ect" at the last min.

FYI- My wife and I flew ZED on LH from MIA to VCE via FRA in October. Business class was wide open, and despite my trying to charm the agents and the supervisor at the gate, they put us in coach ( seats together, which was nice). I noticed that they had some of their own employees (pliots from an LH commuter) going home from training in MIA. They put them in coach as well. The fact that you are star allinace may give you a better shot at Business class.

Either way, the drinks are free in Y and the F/A's are refreshingly polite and attentive.

OOPS! Forgot to answer your original question! I think on our flight they did upgrade Y passengers to Business to make room for us.

LTU is another good option out of LAX and they don't seem to be to full. Did about 5 straight summers on them to Germany out of LAX without issue.
