Hi all, just wondering what NW`s policy is with carrying guitars, gate checking is no problem if needed, just need to know if there are any problems/issues to expect. Thanks.

If you are a Nun willing to play your guitar for a terminally ill child during the flight you are allowed to carry it on.

Now that's funny, not very helpful, but funny none the less.

I should have tried to pass myself off as a nun, although wearing a Harley-Davidson hat & Jack Daniels T-shirt might have been a giveaway that I wasn`t  I`ll try that next time,,,,,

Usually guitars are loaded into the luggage compartment with the rest of the luggage, the problem is the size of the guitar, guitar case. Lets say that the ticket agent was to let you take it as a carry -on, and your not one of the first passengers on board the aircraft, theirs not going to be any space in the overheads left, and the closets are to small. If you get passed the gate agent, and the flight attendent tells you theirs no space and you can't take it onboard, then you'll have to "gate check" your guitar. the rampers will pick it from the jet-bridge and load it in the luggage compartment.
