What's new

NW Pilots vote YES.

As expected. Anticipate the announcement of the AA purchase of much of NW as soon as the other unions ratify their TAs. B)
Gawd damn, I hope not. AA already spent billions on another defunct airline, its the big reason AA has 22 billion in debt. When Scab Air goes Tango Uniform, then buy the routes, pick over the carcass, and thats it. AA really does not need to be any bigger.

Is this a guess or do you have a source FWAAA? I know Arpey recently visited MSP.

BTW....Nice job pilots. Your now in the lead in the race to the bottom. Congrats!!!!

No inside source at all - just a Wild Ass Guess (WAG). NH/BBs and I have been posting about it for quite a while.

I don't think AA would buy all of NW - but the real prize are the China frequencies, the NRT rights, and last: The top half or so of the NW frequent flyers (ranked by fares paid). I don't see AA getting too much larger even if it did acquire much of NW. It would allow AA to "fire" many of its lowest fare-paying pax, and replace them with the highest-paying NW pax.

Management employees (I do not work for AMR or any of its subs) have been kinda silent about the possibility of buying NW whenever it's talked about. Makes ya wonder . . .

In my opinion, the biggest mistake AA made in the last 6 years was NOT buying NW when the two were in serious discussions early in 2000. Hindsight is, of course, 20/20. Northwest wanted more than twice what AA was willing to pay, and Carty walked away. THAT would have been a much better "waste" of billions of dollars than the TWA purchase. On the flip side, NW can probably be bought for much less money than in 2000, so maybe walking away almost 6 years ago wasn't as bad a decision as I make it out to be.

If AA were to buy NW, the NW Union employees better be prepared to bend over. Can you say stapled?

At least with TWA AA got well trained, professional AMTs. If we buy NWA we will have the JOY of kicking the SCABS to the street!

For that reason alone I would expect the mechanics' unconditional support of the deal. B)

It would help bring even more maintenance work to TUL, MCI and AFW - maybe even boost employment. AA wouldn't have to hire the scabs, could recall the furloughed AA/TWA mechanics, and could then rehire the non-scabbing AMFA NW mechanics. I don't see any downside.

Ya know....... I heard this AA+NW=AANWA stuff for over 6 years. It's like....

And then..... ?

Then I hear the DL and NW stuff....

Now we're back at AA and NW?

B) Won't believe it until I see it.
