Administration Seeks Increase in Oversight of Executive Pay

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration will call for increased oversight of executive pay at all banks, Wall Street firms and possibly other companies as part of a sweeping plan to overhaul financial regulation, government officials said.

This is a slippery slope they should stay away from. Where does it end? Will it end when everyone's pay is regulated? Its only fair. How about regulating the pay of actors and sports stars.

I sense a little class envy..... eh Mikey boy. Are you sure it is just the executives you want to limit their pay. Where does it stop? Who is to judge what is too much pay. Who sets the standards. I thought this was a free country. Free to be successful and free to fail.

In other words while people are taking pay-cuts, losing jobs and benfits at least congress, senate and the "PREZ" won't have to worry about their bills !

Obscene or not, a persons compensation is decided upon by their employer. If the board of directors want to pay someone to run a company extreme amounts of money then they should be free to do that. As long as the company is operating within the law it should be none of our business. Remember, an executive is just an employee like you and me, but with some skills that someone is willing to pay some big bucks for.

I would like to know when, in your mind does an employee's compensation become obscene.

They are paid big bucks because they build the compensation committees and stack them with their buddies.

Let the executives do what the hourly guy has to do, negotiate. If the hourly guy has to negotiate a deal with the management, then let the management negotiate a deal with the hourly workers. There all in the same boat / company there combined survival depends on each other. Let them work together on a mutually beneficial deal.

However it is NOT the role of government to regulate wages.

In the case of corporate executives that burden falls on gutless shareholders.

Consider this Mikey,

If somehow you managed to cut a deal to be paid 1.2 million annually to perform your duties as a flight attendant would you want Barack Obama to legislate your salary back down to what you make now, how quickly would you rush to vote Democratic.

I understand what you are trying to say. But there just will not be a situation where a group would be able to walk away with a ridiculous amount of money.

This country is founded on certain fundamental rights, and all of them have do have limits. This corporate greed seems to be last Bastion to rape and pillage.
