Operational Updates

And they were forced to strike by NWA Management who imposed their own set of work rules, pay and benefits on the M&R group.

It works both ways.

NORTHWEST FLIGHT DELAYS. Some travelers reported disruptions Friday as Northwest Airlines Corp. and its mechanics union continued contract negotiations in Washington in the day leading up to a midnight strike deadline. Terry Trippler, who monitors fares for the travel Web site CheapSeats.com, said he has been fielding calls from people experiencing Northwest flight delays and cancellations, most from Detroit and Minneapolis. A spokesman for St. Paul, Minn.-based Northwest said his company's goal "continues to be to reach a consensual agreement with AMFA [Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association]; however, if we are unable to do that and the union elects to strike, we have a comprehensive contingency plan in place." He declined to comment on the carrier's operations or any disruptions. Major issues of contention in negotiations have been the airline's intention to cut pay and 1,850 jobs. The union agreed to a 16 percent cut in pay; the airline wanted a 26 percent cut.

Operaations, its a BETRAYAL! Do you not get that? I don't believe in anyone being hurt, etc., but I do have a right to know who has betrayed me and my fellow workers. Its about trust. If people don't want to be in a union, then they need to get a non-union job.

For all of the NWA mechanics, I wish you all the very best.
Sincerely,
Terry

And dont forget the NWA employees all ready saved this company from bankruptcy once before after Checci took it private and saddled it with debt.

And the unions had to sue NWA to get the stock it agreed to in legally and binding contracts to the employees for their concessions.

Well I'm here working and I'm not in any union so I guess that means I have a non-union job. Do you have a union job? Oh yea I guess you do since AMFA is cutting your checks now.

People have a right to not join a union. But to step into a union job because of a strike especially at union won wages is crappy.

Do you really believe wages would be where they are today if it were not for unions?

Why do you think union came into existence?

Sweatshops, unlimited mandatory hours worked, no benefits!

There was a very good reason unions came into existence!

By the way Keep, one way or another you will be unionized. Be it if AMFA comes back to work or, if not, the IAM will win representation as a reward for not honoring AMFA's picket line...

So you will either pay up some union dues or you will look for the next SCAB opportunity.
