What's new

Osama is dead

There is no indication that Bush did very much to effect OBL's capture so I fail to see what recognition he should recieve. Also I seem to recall that what ever happens in a presidents term is theirs or is that just for the bad stuff that you do not want to attribute to the previous president?

RR? Lol. Ill pass.

Oh, but you'll go back and dispute all kinds of things previous, but its not ok from my POV?
You need to get your head out of your butt.

George W. Bush doubled the defense spending for SpecOps training and operations.
You know, Seals,Delta and whatever we don't know about......and what Obama is taking credit for......

No idea what you are talking about.

Spending does not necessarily make it better I wonder how much of those funds went to develop a stealth helo that cannot tolerate heat?

No clue.....

What admin started Social Security?

What Admin started income tax?

What admin started welfare?

Past Presidents have and do have an impact on future policy......if you can't figure that out.

And how are you so sure the helo couldn't tolerate heat???

You got a link to support that?

Is the link valid or some gov't boosheet?

Smoke this for a while:

Much was written last week about how much thanks George W. Bush deserves in tracking down Osama bin Laden. The answer is: a great deal.

Information extracted from al-Qaida operatives under Bush's interrogation policies ultimately led us to the compound in Abbottabad. But he did more. As an IBD editorial ("'Dumb' War In Iraq Led Obama To Bin Laden") noted last week, a crucial piece of the puzzle in identifying bin Laden's courier came from an al-Qaida lieutenant who was caught only because of Bush's decision to liberate Iraq.

Someone else also belongs on the list of people to thank, along with the heroic Navy SEALs and the current commander in chief. He is the president we have to applaud for so many other things, like saving the U.S. economy from a government-induced malaise, and winning the Cold War: Ronald Reagan.

With the same visionary perseverance employed in his commitment to replace mutual assured nuclear destruction with missile defense, President Reagan executed a long-term strategy to build an array of elite, high-tech special forces units that could carry out operations like the one that snuffed out bin Laden.

As documented by Marc Celmer in the 1987 study "Terrorism, U.S. Strategy, and Reagan Policies," a 1990 target was set by the Reagan administration to increase special operations forces by 50% from 1981 levels. By 1987, a U.S. Special Operations Command was established to oversee the special-ops forces of the various branches of the military.

I thought I read something a few days ago that stated the failure was due to the heat.

I have never said that past acts do not affect the future. I am pretty sure that when someone brings up the fact that the economic cluster screw that we are in now started before Obama took office that you and others have said that people should stop blaming Bush for things because Obama has been in office for 2 yrs.

There are just as many articles that have stated that the water boarding actually may have delayed finding OBL due to all the misinformation obtained due to the torture. Did Bush contribute? Probably. How much? Who knows. He gave up on OBL (his own words) so I really see no reason he should get any acknowledgement.

No dude, its what he done in those two years that negate Bush era......Duh....

Follow the yellow brick road.

"Take One: Bin Laden died in a bloody firefight.

On Sunday night, Obama dramatically told the world that “after a firefight,” our brave men in uniform “killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.”

Embellishing the story the next morning, White House deputy national security adviser John Brennan said at his briefing that bin Laden “was engaged in a firefight with those that entered the area of the house he was in. … And whether or not he got off any rounds, I quite frankly don’t know. … It was a firefight. He, therefore, was killed in that firefight.”

Take Two: Bin Laden did not engage in a firefight.

The day after Brennan disclosed such vivid details, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney walked them back Michael Jackson-style. Bin Laden, he said in version 2.0, “was not armed.” Brennan had clearly implied that bin Laden “resisted” with arms. Carney amended the narrative by insisting that “resistance does not require a firearm.” How exactly bin Laden resisted, Carney would not say.

It’s been all downhill, uphill, K-turns and 180s ever since. Fasten your seatbelts:

Take Three: Bin Laden’s wife died after her feckless husband used her as a human shield.

Take Four: Bin Laden’s wife did not die, wasn’t used as a human shield and was only shot in the leg. Someone else’s wife was killed, somewhere else in the house.

Take Five: A transport helicopter experienced “mechanical failure” and was forced to make a hard landing during the mission.

Take Six: A top-secret helicopter clipped the bin Laden compound wall, crashed and was purposely exploded after the mission to prevent our enemies from learning more about it.

Take Seven: The bin Laden photos would be released to the world as proof positive of his death.

Take Eight: The bin Laden photos would not be released to the world because no one needs proof and it’s more important to avoid offending peaceful Muslims who supposedly don’t embrace bin Laden as a “true” Muslim in the first place.

Take Nine: Bin Laden’s compound was a lavish mansion.

Take Ten: Bin Laden’s compound was a glorified pigsty.

Take Eleven: Bin Laden’s compound had absolutely no television, phone or computer access.

Take Twelve: Bin Laden’s compound was stocked with hard drives, thumb drives, DVDs and computers galore.

Take Thirteen: Er, remember that statement about bin Laden being armed? And then not armed? Well, the new version is that he had an AK-47 “nearby.”

Take Fourteen: A gung-ho Obama spearheaded the “gutsy” mission.

Take Fifteen: A reluctant Obama dithered for 16 hours before being persuaded by CIA Director Leon Panetta.

Take Sixteen: Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and close advisers watched the raid unfold in real time — “minute by minute,” according to Carney — and a gripping insider photo was posted immediately by the White House on the Flickr picture-sharing website for all to see.

Take Seventeen: Er, they weren’t really watching real-time video “minute by minute” because there was at least nearly a half-hour that they “didn’t know just exactly what was going on,” Panetta clarified. Or rather, un-clarified.

Take Eighteen: Stalwart Obama’s order was to kill, not capture, bin Laden.

Take Nineteen: Sensitive Obama’s order was to kill (SET ITAL) or (END ITAL) capture — and that’s why the SEAL team gave him a chance to surrender, upon which he resisted with arms, or actually didn’t resist with arms, but sort of resisted without arms, except there was an AK-47 nearby, sort of, or maybe not, thus making it possible to assert that while Decisive Obama did tell the SEALs to kill bin Laden and should claim all credit for doing so, Progressive Obama can also be absolved by bleeding hearts because of the painstakingly concocted post facto possibility that bin Laden somehow threatened our military — telepathically or something — before being taken out.

Take Twenty: “We’ve been as forthcoming with facts as we can be,” said an irritated Carney on Wednesday."

He was armed and I am sure photos will prove he had them both...

Posted below is an article that offers an interesting assessment of the Death of OBL and his failure to achieve his objective. A little over the top at times but a view that I can agree with.
Time to Smash Bin Laden's Legacy

he Arab Spring popular revolts caught al-Qaida by surprise. The revolts are not al-Qaida's operational handiwork, and they certainly do not fit the ideologically driven historical narrative spun by al-Qaida elites, such as the late Osama bin Laden.

Of course, militant Islamists are exploiting the revolts. Egyptian Islamist extremists have launched attacks on Coptic Christians, seeking to ignite a sectarian civil war and derail Egypt's transition process. Al-Qaida's Musab al-Zarqawi attempted the same ploy in Iraq, pitting Sunnis against Shias.

However, demands for jobs and freedom swamp calls for a caliphate.

Bin Laden's death at any time would have been a coup, but his death now, in this fascinating Arab Spring, provides Arab modernizers with a political tool to challenge the utopian poppycock of militant Islamist extremists and forward the goal of marginalizing them in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and Syria.

Al-Qaida has always been first and foremost an information power whose most potent weapons are psychological manipulation, ideological influence and media exploitation.

Bin Laden's death gives the entire civilized world an opportunity to attack al-Qaida's strengths.

Al-Qaida's dark genius was to link the Muslim world's angry, humiliated and isolated young men to a utopian fantasy extolling the virtues of violence. Al-Qaida's appeal to perceived grievance and its promise to redress 800 years of Muslim decline (by forging a global caliphate) made it a regional information power. The 9-11 attacks made al-Qaida a global information power. Sept. 11 was bin Laden's international advertising campaign. He was al-Qaida's CEO, corporate spokesman and AK-47 armed icon, all in one. His message: Young Muslims could believe in his courage and rectitude.

He failed to create his caliphate, however -- and, oh, he wanted one, so desperately. The worldly power of the Islamic empire he envisioned would confirm the divine sanction of bin Laden-interpreted religious law.

It didn't happen. He's dead. And Muslim extremists won't bring jobs to Egypt, either.

Bin Laden's also failed -- utterly -- to buckle America. America, according to Osama's narrative, was ultimately to blame for the wretchedness of Muslim lands. The U.S. supported corrupt governments, both feudal kingdoms (Saudi Arabia) and authoritarian regimes (Hosni Mubarak's Egypt).

I think the author raises some good points

Statement From the Family of Osama bin Laden

If OBL has been killed in that operation as President of United States has claimed then we are just in questioning as per media reports that why an unarmed man was not arrested and tried in a court of law so that truth is revealed to the people of the world. If he has been summarily executed then, we question the propriety of such assassination where not only international law has been blatantly violated but USA has set a very different example whereby right to have a fair trial, and presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court of law has been sacrificed on which western society is built and is standing when a trial of OBL was possible for any wrongdoing as that of Iraqi President Sadam Hussein and Serbian President Slobodan Miloševic'. We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems and crime's adjudication as Justice must be seen to be done.

In a liberals world, pouring water on a terrorist’s face goes against our core values as Americans. You gotta break into his house & shoot him in the face. Then that's perfectly acceptable.

Osama should have been taking out when Clinton had the chance in the 90's. But bubba took a pass only to have 9/11 be the result of him being weak and a coward. The terrorists were responsible for flying the planes into the WTC, Pentagon, etc., but Clinton also bears some responsibility for those deaths as well.

I'm suprised no one mentioned this.
