Overpaid Vending Machines?

If the quote I posted above (from the AMFA 33 website) is absolutely true and the cuts in PFAA Flight Attendents are to occur as the press reports, and the hiring of overseas replacements is to occur regardless of negotiations, then the PFAA is about to find itself in a totally impotent negotiating position. IMHO the time for the PFAA to act is now. Stand together as one or be picked off one by one. Like the mechanics, there comes a time when one should simply walk away.

Walk away or be treated like overpaid vending machines.

I agree. Walk. ALL OF YOU. Preferably, the day after Thanksgiving.

Steenland must be reading the Playbook Cohen brought over from his stint of occupying space over at USAirways. US experienced the infamous "Meltdown" over the 2004 Holiday period.......all attributed to inept MANAGEMENT, and a formal government report publically blamed our Top Talent for the event. Steenland must be attempting to be the Biggest Fool in the business or he has no idea what an UPRISING looks like. Hopefully the extent of concessions will be reduced and NWA survives this mess....intact!

Starting now, cold turkey any pilot at your airline could train and qualify for a fa position in a matter of weeks. Now take any fa and put them into intial equipment training for any fleet and see how far they get.

Flying an airplane isn't rocket science, dude. Take instrument flying out of the equation and you basically fly from day one in flight school. I have no doubt someone with a decent number of hours could fly a 737 on a clear day. After 9/11 (hmm, some serious initial equipment training there), I can't believe you still think you're so damn special. Now go back to your checklists...

I think you missed the "... and qualify" part of lynyrd's post.

Are you really suggesting it does not take a lot of technical and specialized training to become a proficient enough pilot to fly for an airline??? Or that the amount of training to become a competent airline pilot is comparable to what is needed to become a F/A?

This just shows how little some "executives" value their frontline employees. The vigilance and quick action of one of those "vending machines" prevented a fanatic from destroying an aircraft over the North Atlantic by preventing him from detonating the explosives packed in his shoe.

"Steering a 37 around on a clear day" is a little bit different than succesfully completing the airline training and becoming proficient enough to be line qualified. I don't think I am special at all, but I do get tired of people saying that anyone can do what I do and the plane can land itself with "minimal computer input." I don't mean to demean anyone, but I stand by my post.

Had the explosives worked there would not have been time to stop anything. Pilots are no longer there to fly the airplane. Their job is to drive it from the gate to the end of the runway and back to the gate. Everything in the middle is waiting for something to go wrong. When it does it is very nice to have them there. The problem here is with the intense automation of aircraft they sometimes do not know what the aircraft is going to do in non-normal event, thus they are reduced to guessing what is going on.
