Damn turtle, there you go, confusing us with the FACTS. Like, uh, while a pilot is paid for 70 hours, he works a lot more than that number. He isn''t ''on the clock'' until the wheels start turning.

Because the WSJ did not list SWA as one of the majors in that category. It was front page in the WSJ...looks as if DAL, NWA and CAL are the highest paid, at least for this week???

Funny how the beancounters only use Southwest when they feel like it. Where''s the SWA pilots pay.....Oooops, don''t want to go there, do we!

Southwest''s AMTs will be the highest paid at the end of their contract, $42.00 an hour, but they farm out 70% of their maintenance.

Hey cat111,

A number of folks have referred to ACARS problems. Can you or someone elaborate about what is going on there? Is there a pattern of ACARS failing to properly clock the door closures and openings (and release and application of parking brakes)?

Thanks for any light you can shed.

The ACARS errors are not resulting in extra pay to the crews...funny how glitches always help the company stay in business!

Yes, they contract out 70% of their maintenance, they have 400 airplanes and only 1,265 mechanics as we have 279 airplanes and 4,000 mechanics.

They are slowly bringing some mtc back in house.

Are you sure? Remember reading a post on a BB this past December or so from a SWA mech and says they do their own C''s and below, as well as 1/4 D''s, but contract out their full D-checks. He also said they presently had 1475 mechs and growing.
