Phoenix has put together a package of incentives and tax breaks that could save US Airways as much as $36 million over the next quarter century if it decides to locate a new flight operations center here in the Valley.

That's more than double the city's initial proposal, which detailed roughly $15 million in savings over a similar time period.

That's an interesting sentence.........did they ask the other cities to "tweek" their offers??
I wonder what the 3 different-sized facilities are?

At the Phoenix meeting, US Airways executives asked the city to "tweak" its initial offer and include the potential cash savings for three different-sized operations facilities.

All 3 cities were given an opportunity to submit a "Best and Final". Actually I don't see how Parker can select a winner until the DL thing is resolved. It would appear a bit risky for him to pick PIT, or even PHX, if the takeover becomes successful. Especially with the already stated position that the the top 3 hubs will be ATL, PHL and CLT and the potential for HQ to be in ATL. Of course, I imagine he could go for an interim solution of PIT, which would result in the least amount of change now in favor of more later. If US and DL do actually merge, I'd speculate the US Ops Center would be combined and located with DL's huge facility at ATL. These potential takeover scenarios seem to get more and more complex every day.

Either way we need to cut PIT out of the airline, it is a cancer not a benefit sorry to say.

On what do you base your faulty assumption?

I think it would be awesome if US Airways stayed in Phoenix and kept operations here.

On one hand, if the government can approve a 86BILLION dollar merger between AT&T and Bellsouth, then certainly there will be no problem with the Delta / US Airways.

On Pittsburgh KDKA TV, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato says there will not be an increase in PIT's offer.

I won't bite on that one! As to the ops center...Parker and gang know exactly where is it going to be located, they always have. DL merger, or not, there is a plan going forward, and they have in mind the results. I am not saying this out of admiration or respect for their way of doing business....just do not be fooled by the distracting competition between Pit, Phx, and Clt. This reminds me of the Employee travel decision. It is already made. Allowing the group to vent as to their opinions (date of hire vs. first come) is yet another distraction. Best. Greeter.

Just an increase in whinning when it goes someplace else 😛

Sorry to say typical PIT politics

OH BITE ME !!

I have a friend who worked in the PIT Ops Center. He currently lives in PHX. Me moved knowing full well that PIT was being cut. Now he has an apartment that costs a heck of a lot more than what he was paying for in PIT. Gee isn't that nice. Same pay in a higher cost of living area.

I can't wait for the very first blizzard or hurricane that hits the east coast and watch PHX flounder when they try to get the east side of the operations running again.

As a west employee... ARE YOU SMOKING CRACK? Send it all to the EASt... just get the freeking think out of the MIS-Managment folks of our SOC/OCC in PHX.... LORD KNOWS THEY CANT FIND A GATE FOR A PLANE TO PARK AT MUCH LESS A STORM....

Do you think they traded 400 jobs in PIT for some Philly gates?

If they didn't Rendell is losing his touch.

I'm sure they have phones in PHX too. It only makes sense to consolidate things under one roof - a concept US Air never seemed to grasp. Didn't we have 50+ buildings alone in PIT at one time?

Not trying to be nasty as I lived and flew out of PIT for 10 years and I miss it at times but, there's about as much chance of Dayton coming back as PIT.

Move on ...

Sorry to correct you but the SOC does not handle the gate assignments of aircraft. That is done in the command center which is at the airport and not part of to SOC.
