Pit Back To Hub Status

Lakefield was asked that by a person from the Pit PG...he quickly stated that it is a focus city, but that there can be opportunities to increase capacity in the market should it warrant.

Then why did they put out this merger announcement stating it is a "secondary hub?" HP's secondary LAS hub has over 100 flights a day. I am sure they'll be more clarification in the coming months. Right now, it's a backburner issue, but an interesting one.

PIT has more than 100 flights counting Express... so is it "secondary hub" or "focus city"? If "secondary hub", then aren't LGA, DCA and BOS also??

Maybe the definition of a hub verses a focus city has less to do with the number of flights but more to do with connecting passengers.

Well, don't forget that HP tried to call CMH a hub, too....

If I heard Parker right in the media conference call (the 1st webcast), he basically said that a focus city and small hub are just different names for the samething - HP calls it a small hub & US calls it a focus city (termenology which I suspect we "borrowed" from WN).

Bingo. Even at 60 mainline and 140 express (or whatever PIT is at these days), from all reports it's still banked. It runs like a hub. A small hub, but a hub.

I agree. Lakefield made it VERY clear that it was not getting any different status and that service would increase if warranted. Different companies/different terminologies.

The graphic in the WPost says it best:

Major hubs, secondary hubs, and focus cities.

Hub or focus city, who cares!.....I am just hoping it stays a crew base! Best. Greeter.

Mainly semantics; I think the only real difference between a focus city and a secondary hub is that there are many 'designed' connections to smaller cities (such as ITH) from the 'secondary hub' which may be the primary way many of those smaller city travellers get home. While there may be connections at focus cities too, they are not as emphasized.

I don't like the term secondary hub since it gives dreamers of the good ole days at PIT; those days are gone forever. At best we can expect a few more nonstops to the west coast and LAS/PHX.
