If Doug Parker thinks all the carpeting in PIT's jetways are as good as the one he arrived at last week he's mistaken. According to the agents, the carpeting at a certain jetway was replaced solely for his trip to PIT to give the appearance that all is well. The reality is the rest of the jetway carpeting in PIT is...well..PITiful.

Hope he was there last Wednesday.....

I had my first rev flight on US metal in 10 months last week on a PIT / PHL 5:00 PM flight. I was stunned at how empty the airport was at a peak time. I did not pass a gate that had more than 30 people waiting to board and many were empty. My flight was less than half full. However one tends to reap what one sows.

I was truly sad to see what has become of a once proud airline. As usual the front line was great and the crew was even better. It felt like being back home once again.

They tried that "upgrade" trick (cleaning the ramp, lots of sups at the gates, etc.) in PHL for his arrival to one of the first employee meetings (prior to the merger.) Word on the street was he returned to PHL later, and walked the airport on his own..and is not fooled by the fancy "fixins." I don't know if he was responsible, but I do really appreciate that someone upgraded gate B6 in PHL...the one the leading to the crewroom. As to bad carpet in PIT...the best in PHL is no better than the worst in PIT. Best. Greeter (sorry, a PIT lover)

I never noticed bad carpeting in PIT jetways and I've seen some crapola jetway carpeting in my time.

This is a discussion about the jetway carpeting?? You have got to be kidding!! 😱)

No, not kidding. If I were to approach your doorstep and your walkway was a mess, you hadn't taken the time nor the care to sweep, clean or clear it for guests, I'm not sure anyone would want to enter your home, as it may indicate that the interior conditions could be much worse than the exterior walkway. It might be indicative of how little care has been taken in overall maintenance and upkeep.

Provide the customer with the impression that you care, right down to the jetway carpet; it really does make a difference.

Never been to the PHL airport, have you?

It's called Philthadelphia for reason.
 that place is a ghetto of an airport....Gateway to Hell (and that's being polite). If DP can clean up that mess he should make the cover of TIME Magazine as "Man of the Year"

What stake does the city of Philadelphia have in its own airport? I know a lot of the problems come from mismanagement over the years, but how much stems from lack of action from the city? Is the city “hands offâ€￾? By that I mean, “Yea we have an airport and it’s generating us all this moneyâ€￾, wash, rinse, repeat, but do nothing. How much of PHL’s budget goes into general housekeeping?

Just curious and welcome answers.

Kind of funny how a topic about PIT gravitates to PHL. The same could be asked of PIT as well.

Can not answer your specific questions, but I flew out of the PHL E concourse last week and it is pristine compared to B/C. You saw no trash, no filthy carpet, no discolored or stained walls, no overflowing trash bins, etc, etc, etc.

The city had painters come in last week and paint the ceilings and the outer part of the gate areas in B/C. I think they still might even be coming in. They're working their way up the terminal. At least it's a start. I think if they changed the carpet in all the gate areas it would look 20 times nicer.

The city has a stake in the airport as far as the $$$ they are getting from the tenants. They probably also mandate in the least a certain amount of upkeep, including rennovations. If the US areas are as deplorable as some say, then maybe the Philadelphia Dept. of Aviation should get a letter and they could check it out.

Years back, the city was considering selling the airport when they were in a financial crisis. Now, it's a cash cow and they probably wouldn't dream of giving it up.

This is the question that NEEDS to be answered.....WHO is responsible for the condition of the airport? I was told by a Customer Serv Suprv that the individual airlines are responsible for maintaining the respective gate areas and the Airport Authority handles the public areas (reasonable approach). The A west concourse usually looks fairly presentable but the B&C concourses are beyond neglect......it's an absolute embarassment, and IF the airline is responsible it is LONG OVERDUE that the CITY turn up the heat to MAKE THEM CLEAN it UP or GIVE it UP!

^ This is true of most airports. In CLT, US is responsible for the gate areas and jetways, the airport is responsible for the concourses. Thankfully, I can blame Jerry Orr and not the Company for the fact that the moving sidewalks are always broken.

CLTB, don't want to be a stickler...but I non-reved thru Charlotte this week and the all moving sidewalks were working between concourse B and E. Moving sidewalks are the best thing since sliced bread! Wish they had them from my house to the airport...probably would save 15 or 20 minutes in the commute! Beautiful airport by the way. I was very impressed.
