Time for another poll 😀 3 months and we have come along way...but is it going the way you thought it would?

Personally somewhat disappointed in the lack of communication between BOTH the East and West side of the operation. Recently acquired a copy of the AW Inflight magazine (which I liked) but was surprised to see such little merger related info/ combined route map/ airport Hub maps etc. I realize there are print deadlines but this has to be somewhat confusing to the customer. Many posters have commented in the past on airline advertising.....the December issue had very crisp, sharp ads for the "New" US and I especially took a liking to the ad for Hawaii, Caribbean and the Gift Cards. If this is any indication of future ads, It Will be Noticed. (Having worked in advertising and being both a FFund & DMile member I am surprised they really haven't exploited the opportunity to reach out and flaunt the merger and as an employee I would wager to bet neither East or West REALLY knows much about the other.

Got a copy of the new "US Airways Magazine" today (first issue).
Most of your criticisms are addressed, a good mag...

Haven't seen it yet, but I did find it interesting the same publishing company of Attache' was selected for the new magazine. Our old AWA magazine publisher is also involved in a smaller capacity in the production of the new magazine. Bringing together the best of both. This is how synergy is supposed to work.

It seems that the company and ALPA are at odds...the East JNC has been recalled, as the company is back to the same old shenanigans. Happy New Year, It looks like it will be the same as the old year! And the year before, and before, and before...

Autofixer...is this part of an old click that is still inplace...or is it part of new management? What is the JNC? Before you resign yourself into thinking things will be the same...give it more time. Our merger is a major undertaking and there will no doubt be bumps in the road.

You are correct, very well done, ads for the airline very fresh and the maps are very appealing. The monthly greeting from Doug Parker comes across as most sincere (anyone know whether HE really writes the piece) and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes

I don't want to get this too far off topic, but.....

The JNC is the Joint Negotiating Committee that is charged with negotiating the combination of the two ALPA contracts. As such, it is composed of equal numbers of ALPA negotiators from each side - two from the East side and two from the West side, I believe.

Autofixer isn't quite right. There was a motion presented at the quarterly East MEC meeting to withdraw the JNC, but no action was taken other than to call another MEC meeting this week to discuss it - seems the ALPA national advisors were against recalling the JNC. I understand that this week's meeting will be a joint meeting with both MEC's present.

As for the "old clique", Jerry Glass is supposedly being paid by the new management to supervise the ALPA negotiations so I guess you could say it's both the "old" and "new" management at work.

Jim thanks for the info. I'm a little confused. Is Jerry Glass acting in a negotiator's or in a supervisory capacity? I'm not sure I'm clear on what is actually taking place. It doesn't seem right that the company could "supervise" any union actions. If you could answer this post we'll try to get back on topic. 🙂

The company & the two ALPA MEC's are negotiating a combined ALPA contract since there are differences in various provisions of the existing two contracts (that's where the JNC comes in). It's my understanding Glass has been retained as a consultant for these negotiations (and possibly others, such as AFA, but I don't know that for sure). Whether he's just supervising the negotiations (behind the scenes) or actually taking part in the face-to-face negotiations (at the table), I don't know.

It doesn’t matter Glass negotiator/ supervisor/consultant Glass is at the table or close by for management.

New to this forum but been around for a long time with U. Almost 30 years. Glass has succeeded in persuading the pilots that what we do is a job and not a profession. 57% of our pilots agreed to take substandard wages and he knows he left money on the table. Parker knows it too. And that is precisely why Glass is still around. And our inept ALPA leadership (at all levels) refuses to stand up for the profession because they are petrified at the thought of having to call for a strike. Because they know that the majority of pilots have neither the will or guts to stand up for the profession. They believe they must save their "job" no matter the cost.

Now before you anti-pilot morons start chiming in remember this: LUV pilots are paid substantially more than almost all the "legacy" guys now and they still make money. And yes, I'm aware of supply and demand and the kids making peanuts flying RJ's willing to take my position for substantially less than they are paying me. My point is simply that Glass has and will continue to play this pilot group like a fiddle. And he drew the blueprint, with the U pilots help, for what is going on at DAL, NWA, etc.......

Were I not so senior with relatively good working conditions I would have quit 2 years ago. But I can still work my other career while doing this. For the junior guys I cannot imagine why they continue to put up with this crap. It amazes me. They have options but they all involve hard work and risk. Something most are not willing to accept. So be it.

Our only hope is that the AWA guys have more balls than the U guys. But the Glass strategy will be divide and conquer. It has already started and seems to be working pretty well.

Our profession has been demeaned by our management and our fellow employees. And we have allowed it to occur. Shame on us for not taking a stand. All of us. From U to DAL to NWA and the rest. The founders of ALPA are spinning in their graves.

Wish we had the balls

You left out a very important category - those who dislike the merger because they are now OUT of a job! New non- revving destinations are all well and good, but if one is unemployed, what good are they?

With all due respect, Maybe there are jobs with USAir at a lower pay?
