What's new

Question for the West

Almost anything would be an improvement from the 7th level of hell that this management team has brought us down to. Operationally, customer impression and retention wise they have the Midas touch in reverse everything this group of mental midgets touches quickly turns to crap. They simply have no idea how to operationally run real international airline with real products like first class and envoy class. Heck they weren't even very good at running a regional airline. In our worst days after bk2 we were better than this.

Has anyone seen Southwest's system? I was sick watching my friend rearrange his entire schedule in less than 5 min! It was user friendly and I was amazed at the amount on info. CATS SUCKS. It's a DOS based POS. I don't even think DOS talks to Windows does it? That's why our ETB is not automatic. 1982 copy write crap. EDS maintains CATS or at least writes our modifications to the program. I know a guy there that is like, "you want us to do what with this"!? It's like trying to make old PacMan into a game on todays Playstation.
But it would be a step up from what AW has.

I think Catcrew is mainframe as in Unix. I may be wrong. And by the way, Windows wouldn't work without DOS. You're still using it. It's working behind the scenes. You just can't access it like we had to back in the 80's.

But, anyway, I just would hate for the company to trash catcrew without a comparable product or one that's better. And you know as well as I that they would donate a kidney before they would ask us to Beta test a new product.

Since you live in Charlotte, drinks and dinner on me if they DO replace both systems with something better.......whew....I just saved some money!!

Please excuse my ignorance but what is PBS?

No worries FBN. PBS is pref bidding system. Most companies that have it like it because it won't build conflicts. Many ways to use the system to your advantage. If you like bidding hard lines you can (I don't) or you can just put in your QOL ie weekends off, don't start before this time don't end past this time etc...

Southwest uses, or used, a version of SBS Maestro.

Here's an paragraph quoted from a year old article, but please ignore the feather ruffling paragraphs!

Crew management is one major area that will need a new solution. Crew Activity Tracking System, the US Airways application, and SBS's Maestro used by America West will not be carried over because, Beery says, they "will not meet the requirements of the new company." RFPs have been sent and a decision is expected later this year.

Well, if the cutover to Qik is any indication as to what and where they are going with this, I cringe at the solution they come up with.

Its not going to matter what system they go with. They will not be adequately staffed for anyone to do anything- drop, swap, etc. Haven't you guys learned anything??

Oh Winbid. I could check in and instead of "THANK YOU FOR SIGNING IN" or "WARNING, THIS IS A TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT": I could get a Bible passage like on Winbid? 😛 B) I was always preferable to "Judge ye not less ye be judged"

Sounds like another HP POS (IE quik/shares and Sceptre) computer system. I bet they choose the crappy one because it is cheaper and they think that they can "enhance" it to suit our needs.

After SHARES..all I ever see when thinking of any IT products coming from the west..is a vision of two Geico cavemen beating a rusty Commodore 64 to death with clubs. The caption? = "So stupid...NO ONE can make it do anything".

Does anyone know why they "warn" you that you are on a Transatlantic flight?

Praise Jesus, Winbid. Time for all of us at US to find Jesus, just like Michael Vick..... 😱

Maestro is what we have and it is total crapola..... but i heard it's going away as soon as they decide on the new system.

Well, there you have it! Maestro will be the new system chosen for all of us, because it's CHEAP! God help us all!

According to a higher up in Scheduling here out West, neither Maestro or CatCrew is going to be utilized as they lack certain fundamental abilities that the company would like to have. So, both systems will be replaced at the same time with something NEW. I imagine it will probably suck as it will be the cheapest system they can find.

Said scheduling management stated that no one else is doing what we do so it is hard to pick a system and it will be a LONG time. A few pointed out that all we were doing was scheduling an airline just like American, United, Continential, Southwest, Jetblue, Frontier, Alaska, Airtran, etc and we should just talk to them all and see what they use and how it works for them .... said management pish poshed that idea and again repeated that we are unique ... whatever! So, no answers just more smoke blown up our asses by management.
