Question for the West

So Sharon Stone tell me why each of these individuals is guilty?

Management 101 topics.

Guilt by association. Leadership through fear. How to create a bottom 5%. Effective lying. Maximizing personal stock options.

Missing.

Accountability and ethics of managers. Problem-solving for dummies.

What planet are you living on? What has happened so far is that people got caught with misuse of company assets. Try opening up your little employee guidebook, it is spelled out.

Punishing those who did so is really stupid? What do you think due process for them should be? Maybe some little golden keyboard reward for being clever? This is so not about security or crippling the US daily operation. It is about the "buddy" system that was in place with a touch of , we can beat the system and since we can we will, meglomania thrown in.

And if you want another viewpoint of how disappointing and distastful this whole little chapter is....ask any pilot what they think should be done to someone who messes with the scheduling system for their advantage.

Hmmm. I find it interesting that every single comment above fully supports the general sentiments about exactly how "management" operates on all higher levels. Frankly, given the "ethics" shown from the top down?...Here's one pilot who could care less how FA's can enhance their abusive situations at the cost of "management". I'm no fan of theft, and am not sure if the described behavior constitutes such. I have too few details about this mess, and I'll freely confess this to be a gut level response to what does seem attempted justification, for yet more employee abuse, for even the wholly innocent in this situation.

"Punishing those who did so is really stupid? What do you think due process for them should be? Maybe some little golden keyboard reward for being clever? "

Actually? The current "punishment" for massive "theft" hereabouts appears to be millions in personal wages and even many, many more millions in stock options  Talk about "megalomania"...sheesh.

"What planet are you living on?"

Which sums up the general F/A Pilot relationship-unless the F/As are going to strike.

You've totally missed my point = I'm fine with FA's seeking to improve the sad conditions currently in effect. I'm also a bit of a "romantic", in that I'd love to see employee groups mutually support each other, up to and including strikes.

And I would love it to. I really don't like one bargaining unit interjecting itself into another's business.

Based on what I have read about the one or more West FA's that manipulated the system there is one glaring issue besides management not proactively closing loopholes much earlier (it costs money to make program changes in Maestro and they hate that) and that is dumping more trips into open time when the days are already critical manning is that it makes life even tougher for reserves who may get additional tagging or lose a DO (day off) that otherwise would have been theirs when scheduled. Some of the really senior folks have been know to say 'hey, that's what reserves are there to do', but in my view it shows great disrespect and disregard for those who work with you. It's like I got mine and screw you mentality.

As an Eastie looking in, this whole thing could have been prevented if the issues had been handled in a timely manner and with respect. It's called Business 101.

Having said that, the way it's been addressed is silly. They knew there was a problem...it was not addressed..The fault is with management.

Now this is the beauty of our bid sheet that we use. Open trips get dropped into the bid sheet ...and those trips get bid on by seniority...first by block holders then get passed on to reserves. And these trips are processed the day before departure. That's our Future Scheduling. Everything else goes into Daily Scheduling.

It's very organized. There is no screwing around with the system.

And if there is that reserve disrespect....someone needs a reality check. Reserves should never be treated as second class employees.

Perhaps US should have a full investigation?
Management investigating management? Don’t hold your breath. This is what is wrong with corporate America today.I hear echoes of pass reservations

(it costs money to make program changes in Maestro and they hate that)

Make it cost them more for not changing the program.

The west has been way too compliant. Your comments portray a cost vs no-cost scenario for management, allowing the cost of investigation and termination/get job back to be zero. It is not zero and to emphasize that, somehow a cost should be added to management malfeasance through, perhaps, a lawsuit.

Only then will the spreadsheet zombies indicate that it is cheaper to clean up the potholes than pay for malicious negligence. Try standing proud, make your pride force professionalism on the managers. The mature ones will thank you for that.

CWA understands the principle.

Malicious negligence....that's pretty vile.
And maybe deserved.

It sounds as if the west inflight dept is manned by a bunch of 12 year old hysterics. Who is your base manager? and why would they allow something get so out of hand? Well...unless they were the driving force...

Nasty!

Paxil may be the answer for the inflight dept.

Flyby, that's probably one of the most accurate desriptions of PHX/AWA inflight I've ever heard.

Base manager you ask? Well, that would be Linda Fry and yes I'm sure the driving force. She seems to think her wealth of knowledge from running a reservation center certainly qualifies her to run the inflight department. I mean we all know booking reservations and flying the line have so much in common. 🙄

I would also have to say the only one whose management style is worse than Mrs. Fry's is her faithful sidekick Ms. Burreson. At least on her worst days Mrs. Fry is able to maintain a tiny bit of professionalism, the same cannot be said for Ms. Burreson. In a nutshell, that whole department bites and that is why the supervisors in that dept are running for the door as fast as they can to other positions in the company.

I remember a "romantic" pilot who harangued everyone before the flight what we should vote for when our contract came up(and it wasn't to go on strike).

Very few are innocents in this matter and all AWA flight attendants know the abuses that occured with F/As who understood Maestro all too well. That one person or few persons who actually did the transactions on the system were working as Bookies for alot of other flight attendants who also knew that that it was unethical and possibly illegal.

And of course you don't have any disciplinary or availability problems when you are getting the exact schedule and trips you want through system manipulation.

They are casting the net wide because the actual Hackers were working for a larger and arrogant group with a gross sense of entitlement. Even though they must know that the computer tracks every single transaction that everyone makes, they thought that no one would take the time to sift through all of the data tracks and analyze who were the actual beneficiaries of each one....surprise! It is not a matter of Maestro deficiencies or supervisor stupidity at all. It is like any other embezzelment, it starts small but greed eventually pushes it to a point where it gets discovered. I would say that there is where the stupidity lies.

It is no different from the rampers in Philadelphia who were entering phony overtime in the system. Same mentality and the penalty should be the same. Actually worse than PHL because they directly ripped off their co-workers. No sympathy.
and don't forget that it's a seniority violation too.

I don't know if the West End has the same seniority issuses that we have. In fact...I don't think they bid by senority at all. I think it's all first come..first serve.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Which by the way.....why is that?

Will someone please explain to me why bidding isn't done in senority order???
