What's new

Republican controlled house says.."DEFUND Obamacare, or we're SHUTTING the GOVT. DOWN "

""Pass a budget, end the government shutdown, pay our bills and prevent an economic shutdown," he told Republicans. "And as soon as that happens, I am eager and ready to sit down and negotiate with Republicans on a whole range of issues."

Who is being brainwashed?

Obama is lying, there will be no serious neg's on anything the GOP wants.

Also, don't look now but the Dems tried to take the budget to Senate conference 18 times starting in Apr of 2013 and the republicans rejected every attempt.

This whole shut down was carefully orchestrated by the republicans. They waited till the last minute because they could not do via legislation. So they decided to hold the country hostage to get their way.

Why did they reject those attempts?

We can only hope for the same outcome, as in '95 !

"Positive impacts of the government shutdown included the balanced-budget deal in 1997 and the first four consecutive balanced budgets since the 1920s. In addition, Gingrich stated that the first re-election of a Republican majority since 1928 was due in part to the Republican Party's hard line on the budget.[sup][18][/sup][sup][19][/sup] The Republican Party had a net loss of three seats in the House in the 1996 elections but retained a 227-206 seat majority. In the Senate, Republicans gained two seats."

Gingrich has always had astute judgment, especially when it comes to himself and women.

Is there any difference you can think of between this shut down and the one in 1995?

I was curious, during past shut downs, if those in control went out of their way to make the public as uncomfortable as Obama is.....I'm mean he's getting quite chickenshiit and its being noticed by more than the GOP blame crowd.

Oh, there are lots of differences...
  1. They didn't set up barricades to block the view of Mount Rushmore
  2. The memorials in DC stayed open
  3. They didn't try to close the ocean like they've done in Florida
  4. They didn't close down crab fishing in Alaska
  5. They didn't kick out residents or people living in private homes on Federal lands
  6. They didn't close down the lodges and other concessions run by third parties at National parks.
  7. They didn't block off beaches along National Seashores
  8. They allowed states to fund operations at National Parks (e.g. AZ footed the bill to keep the Grand Canyon open)
  9. They didn't hold busloads of foreign tourists locked up in a hotel
  10. They didn't padlock the outhouses in National Forests
No previous White House has sought out ways to inflict pain on the general public the way this one has tried, first during the sequester, and now during the partial shutdown.

Were some services interrupted in the 90's? Sure. But not to the extent and with such deliberate intent that this administration has shown.

When all is said and done, *how* the shutdown was managed is what people will remember, not the shutdown itself.

The repeated bills sent to re-open parts of the government will be remembered, and so will Harry Reid saying "why should I?"....

First the Unions and now John Stewart, are finally starting to grasp the repercussions of BaRack-O-Care !

Gusss you missd the part where he said this was better than whag we had but he woould hwve rather had a single payer system. She said that given the stink with the current bill the GOP would have stroked out.

If you are going to quote someone at least have the integrity to post all of what was said.

The Just Ain't Right planned a shutdown for months. Now it is somebody else's fault.

There were also many agencies that were actually funded during that one (1995).

You should really research the Anti-Deficiency Act and the rulings on it.

Close the ocean? Do you even read what you cut and paste?

The question was have any other previous admin's gone to the lengths this admin has to make it uncomfortable for the American people to access fed venues?

I have a pretty good idea Obama has gone over the top and will be rememberd in 2014/2016.

Just think of all the campaign ads with crippled vets.....LOL
