The bridges you don't want to burn are not with US Airways. These are the bridges to other possible employment if you so choose to continue working, or you decide to get a job down the road. They can legally say you left the company without giving notice. Prospective employers might take exception to such behavior.
Besides, there are all kinds of "gotchas" in most retirement plans. If you don't dot every I and cross every T you might end up with less than you are entitled to or possibly nothing.
