When did you guys start putting new coach seats on your MD-80s vs the old ones pictured in the safety briefing cards that I was used to (blue and with Beige patterns). I thought the adjustable headrest was kinda nice and a bit more comfortable than what I was expecting.

Just curious.

Those new seats with the headrest 'wings' were part of the More Room Throughout Coach revamp and were installed at that time. Even though MRTC is gone at least the seats remain. So, they started putting them in back around 2000.

A friend just returned from an AA trip on two MD-80s and reports that the outbound segment still had the old seats while the return had the newer, nicer seats. i thought they had all been replaced, but maybe her outbound flight was on an ex-TWA '80.

The "new" seats you are referring to, were here way before MRTC. The seats your friend had were "old" TWA seats. They suck by the way. I think/hope they are being replaced. I know some have been, but not enough of them. One can hope.

Are you sure? I remember back around 2000 when MRTC was being heavily promoted AA had cabin mock-ups with about four rows of seats on display at many of their ticket lobbies. They also were promoting their new seats with the adjustable headrests with the flaps. One could sit in the seats, marvel at the extra legroom, and fiddle with the headrests. Fun! I assumed that the new seats were installed when the aircraft was reconfigured for MRTC.
I figured the MD-80 with the non-headrest seats was an ex-TW a/c.

The mock ups were to show the differnce that MRTC would provide. They just happened to use the most recent seats available. They were here before MRTC. Trust me. At least on the S80. The 757 and A300 still have the old seats to this day. Although the 757 is scheduled to be overhauled in the cabin, the A300 will when they go to their next owner/operator.

Our S80s were terrible. No saving grace. Like trying to dine formally in a drugstroe! But out 757s rocked!

Well since it has been a few years since you flew Eh Eh , let me tell you what to expect................... It has been over four years since the company raped the employees and promised them if we pull together we will all win together!! In those years the white collar crookes have rewarded themselves graciously many times while we employees looked on in dismay and waited for our turn to share the wealth. Well just as all crooked CEOs promises became lies and employees have become bitter. No one cares anymore about you or your $99 dollar ticket. No empployee goes above and beyond anymore. Mr Our Pay stole our airline from us and made it a disgrace. I am AAshmed to even say I work for Eh Eh anymore!!! Any way as to what to expect......................
You will probably board late due to maintenance being on board. You see per our management we do as little maintenance as possible and we have no parts on hand because we have to save money to give bigger upper mismaanagement BONE USes!! The ticket agent will be at the end of her wits due to full planes and no help. The pilot cares about nothing but getting his flying hours and getting his ass home. The flight attendant is the most screwed of the bunch working many many more hours and getting less pay and listening to all the $99 dollar passenger #### that they dont have a hot meal or pillow or blanket. The carpet will smell like a septic tank, the seat probably wont recline, the shade is probably missing you won't be able to look out the window due to filth on it and your reading light is probably placarded inop. So enjoy your cheap ass ticket that is probably cheaper than the bus and remember we workers really don't give a #### anymore! It is out of our hands and Our Pay and his white collar crooks have no clue how bad it is on the front line. OTHER THAN THAT .........ENJOY YOUR FLIGHT AND IF YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY SATISFIED PLEASE CONTACT OUR CEO MR OUR PAY!!!

no problem miss $99 ticket complainer!! wah waaaahhh!!! hope to see ya boarding one of our flying garbage cans soon!!!!!

1. I'm a sir, not a miss

2. What does the price of my ticket, whether it's $99 or $599, have to do with your rant? It's an honest question, because I can't tell what you're trying to say in the midst of your long-winded, no-paragraph, 1st grader quality "writing".

3. Never mind, you're a troll, so bu-bye

p.s. just in case you really are an airline employee, which scares me, please do society and AA a favor, quit your job and work somewhere else

Don't know or care what the troll posted; but I suggest you do as I did: Just add him to your Ignore list.

Uh, who is the real loser? The customer who gets what they perceive as the best value for their money, or the employee who continues to work for a company he claims raped him four years ago, and continues to treat him so horribly on a daily basis?...

Sorry but it is out of pure frustration with what my airline has become!!! At 44 years old and 23 years seniority I, unlike the white collar crooks at my airline, have a vested intrest in the long term survival of it!!! As much as I try not to care, I do care about the appearance of my airline and the safety of its passengers!!! When the demand for $99 tickets and the corporaate greed jeopardize both, I have a problem with that!!! So to sum it up I am staying and doing as little as possible, as safely as possible! And in the mean time I will be AAshamed of my airline!!! An ass like yourself may call that being a loser but at least I am not a quiter!!!

Actually, they flight operated ontime. The ticket agents were really nice. The plane was pretty clean. The lights worked. There were blankets but no pillows. The flight was a red-eye so the flight attendants only served juice, water and coffee but they seemed pleasant. By the way it was not a $99.00 dollar ticket. I picked the flight because it got me where I needed to be at the time I needed to go. I was just interested in the newer seats. lat time I flew AA was pre 9/11 since then I flew mostly US and UA and on one occasion YX.
