SENIOR RAMP BUYOUT

I have never seen such a bunch of idiot management and employees as what has been formed and inherited. There is absolutely NO respect for longevity, loyalty, OR senority! If that is the American way, then it SUCKS!!. If that is the course of business, then it SUCKS!! If that is the America West...oops.."new" US Airways way. IT SUCKS!!

Unfortunately, that is the America West way. The old CEO, Bill Franke, at least had the cajones to come out and say that he didn't want rampers too stick around long. He had no respect for anyone that would do grunt work for Burger King pay. If you didn't like it, then up yours and go find a job somewhere else. Doug Parker won't say it but he thinks it, refer to the slip of the tongue in the Philadelphia Inquirer. I hate to say it but I actually respect Franke more. He held rampers in utter contempt and was man enough to say it.

On another note, I talked with an old golf buddy of Ken Fisher, ramp director at PHL. Seems that Ken had the idea that rampers were not people but parts of a large machine. When a part breaks or wears out, you just replace it. This is the America West way and management has had their little brains inculcated with this hogwash.

This is what the low wages are getting them. We are pretty much at the bottom of customer service & heading south. I just wish (know it wont happen) this management would wake up & see what this constant turn over is doing. No one stays long enough to learn their job. The few who do stay, well I'm not going there.

I will go there. An example of the trash they are hiring on the ramp. Yesteday, this kid on our gate couldn't find his way to the gate with a plane on the j-line. We had to hold off the plane until someone from another gate came to help marshal it in. Then on a pushback, I couldn't push because the kid was standing behind a piece of equipment and I couldn't see him. When the equipment moved, he was playing with his cell phone. We're unloading bags, I'm in the bin throwing bags on the belt, he's at the bottom and talking on his cell phone. He's complaining that he now has a bad back. He never had a bad back until he started working at US. He's a big strapping kid! Now he has a bad back. The team lead said "How did you hurt your back? You don't do any work!" We're loading an aircraft and he drives away on a beltloader because he needs to talk to his friend. I'm a middle-aged man with health problems and I'm working circles around him. My carbeurator ain't carbeuratin', my filters ain't filterin', my radiator ain't radiatin', and my pistons aint workin' either but I can still do the job. Oi. Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care.
