What's new

Seven Boeing 737-300 going back before year end.

If my memory serves me correctly, during Bankruptcy II as a condition of supporting the POR, GECAS removed aircraft from US Airways' fleet and holds the right to remove 11 additional B737s. 7 of the B737s can be repossessed or returned by US Airways this year. US Airways will take delivery of 7 more EMB-190s this year, 14 next year, and begin the 37 A320 family aircraft deliveries in 2008.

ALPA was given a copy of the fleet plan earlier this year and was informed of this situation.

Bet those 7 are in need of the lap joint repair....U maintenance didn't want to go into that at all.

I hope all of them are WEST.... The West 7-dirty-7's are total crap...

The passengers hate them, the fa's hate them... The only one's who love them are the 737's cockpit crew... Mostly always in a dream land... about how wonderfull these birds are... Only for them... and there "lifestyle" 🙄
I am all for the AirBus A/C, and any "NEW" NG 73's... but any and all old 737 on the west that go will get a big send off from the FA's on the west.... GOOD For them to send them away... 😀 Send all of them..... Every LAST ONE AWAY....

I guess you can say the ratty ol' 737's out west go hand in hand with the ratty ol' Flight Attendants out west,eh cutie?

Won't matter. After the certificate is merged they will all be Airways.

On the grand scale of things, I suppose you are right but it's worth noting that the 737 fleet will be kept separate regardless of whether there is a single operating certificate. From what I've been told, the West 737s have noticably more cycles on the airframes than the East. Many have the wicked hull inspection due in the next couple of years. Also, there is no desire to spend the $$$ to update the FMCs on East 737s which means that fleet pretty much won't backfill West 737 departures. So I would expect that the bulk of aircraft departures system wide will continue to be West 737s. The replacement aircraft will be E-190s and more high CASM CRJs. More mainline jobs lost to the C scale or outsourced. I don't fault the company at all. It's all squarly within the contract. Thanks ALPA.

 Yes, those "dirty sevens" just cannot compare to the Airbus with passenger comfort, flight deck instrumentation and reliability.

That was uncalled for. Every Airline has senior employees which should be treated as jewels " for their expereince" I take it if your a employee then you must be a junior 737 pilot . If your senior then that was an odd comment.... Anyhow... Wishing you the best 😀

I'm neither senior nor junior. As a matter of fact I'm not an airline employee at all. Couldn'tay me enough to put up with that crap you deal with day in day out, especially for what they pay you.

Be careful what you ask for...

there were those who used to complain about the F-100 being too much of a "Barbie Jet", too hot, etc.

Management listened.

Love how you state the TOTAL deliveries of EMBs but merely mention the BEGINNING trend of aircraft deliveries for A320s.

Clever use of the language Chip. I love the mention of ALPA as if to offer some rubber stamp of "approval" or authenticity.

7 EMBs in 2007
14 EMBs in 2008
1 A320 in 2008

Known to the F/A's as Ghetto Jet, or Jurassic Jet. I read an east F/A post calling it the Tuna Can.

On the East we called 737-200s for MetroJet, Jethro Jet and Metro Sled. But the trips were great all long layovers and a 4 day paid almost 28 hours.
The 737-400/300 is known as the Tuna Can or the 7Dirty7. Back in the day at one point on the 400 we had 4-5 flight attendants on it. When you got a 400 it was known as Tuna Helper. I like Satans Charriot the best.

Ah...the "Tuna Can". When every other carrier used bigger A/C to fly cross country we had (still have)our 300s. It was embarrassing.
5 F/As falling over each other. Lavs at the very rear of the A/C so every time someone "went" you were(still are)treated to the "blue water" aroma while trying to eat.

AirTran and Southwest still fly 737's cross country.

The reference of "Satan's Chariot" can be attributed to a certain DCA based F/A that no longer walks the aisles. (Went on to greener pastures). I will NEVER forget the day he christened it with THAT NAME....after laughing like hyeenas, it made the previous names of Flipper, GhettoJet, FatAlbert or the TUNACan seem like a compliment  For the record.....I HATE The 737....ALL Variations of them!
