PITTSBURGH (AP) — A regional airline that has a hub at Pittsburgh International Airport was several times more likely to turn back or divert flights because of mechanical problems than its peers, a newspaper reported Sunday.

First of all the "stained glass company" is in Williamstown, W.Va. It is called Fenton Art Glass. Williamstown, W.Va. is roughly 7 miles north of Parkersburg, W.Va. Secondly, the only aircraft flown in to Parkersburg, W.Va. (PKB) at the Wood County Regiaonal Airport is Beechcraft 1900's under Airmidwest visa v "Mesa". I have a personal friend who is a Captain there. Plus that is my hometown. This reporter is wrong. :down:

Since I'm the one that posted the article (didn't write it), let me put forth three possibilities...

1 - the writer made the whole thing up

2 - the passenger & event at the end of the article was obviously not on a Shuttle America flight and shouldn't have been included in the article.

3 - the passenger at the end of the article mistakenly called the aircraft a "turbojet" (how often does that happen?), the flight was not from PIT to WV, and didn't happen to mention whatever the flight attendent had or had not done.

Turbojet is just thier way of saying turboprop. Just like reporters use non-industry terms like "jetliner", "airliner", "co-pilot" or "attendant" by itself (no one ever says this, it is ALWAYS flight attendant).

To the public, it doesnt really matter who operates a flight on paper. The article is trying to sensationalize a report that puts US Airways in a bad light. It starts out using fact (US Airways Express carrier Shuttle America doesnt like to stay in the air very long), and then wanders off into a little bit of drama to make it an exciting read (a US Airways Express turboprop had an incident recently). It ends, of course, with a customer quote- these are essential in reporting minor aviation incidents. Find the person the most "shaken up" and get a quote about being terrified, hopefully with a mention of a young bride and child they thought they'd never see again, and visions of life passing before thier eyes.

It matters not who operates the flight. All it says is an incident happened on a US Airways Express flight. Would it be reported in the PIT paper if it weren't one of the numerous US Express carriers? Probably not. Shuttle America and Air Midwest do not sell papers, US Airways does. When Colgan Air lost an aircraft off the Cape last year, and Air Midwest in Charlotte before that, CNN's headline was "US Airways plane crashes."
