US Airways says 1,800 flights canceled due weather

Mon Jan 24, 2005 04:14 PM ET

LOS ANGELES, Jan 24 (Reuters) - US Airways (USAIRQ.OB: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday it and its affiliates canceled 1,800 flights over the weekend due to severe winter weather.

The airline said it expects to resume a full flight schedule by Tuesday.

While overall it could have been much worse (luckily I was off on Sat and today, but worked Sun night), I would still like to see US start something like AA is doing by isolating the planes to particular hubs. While PHL was a mess, CLT, DCA and PIT were open, yet with some of the planes COMING from PHL, that didnt matter since the outbounds were late due to the PHL mess so we ended up busting connections into a hub that was unaffected by the weather. I know there is going to have to be some cross hubbing, but it would be nice to isolate the PHL planes as much as possible.
