It works for Southwest because of their cost structure. Is US anywhere close to WN's CASM level, or HP for that matter? No. If you put WN at US's CASM level, they wouldn't be making money either in this environment.

Yes, US costs are higher than SW, so instead of capping the walk-up fair at $299 US could cap their highest walkup fare at say $799-$999. I think you might be amazed at how many people would be more willing to pay $999 walk up fare vs. $2000 or more.

Here's an example of how HP is attracting new customers:

Sunday Nov. 17 Load Factor: HP = 81%
US = 67%

A whopping 14% negative differential! I completely understand that load factors are only one thing to consider when focusing the bottom line, but HP is clearly attracting new customers with their consumer friendly fare (FAIR) initiative.

Could somebody please check to see if the lites are still on at CCY.....
HP is at it again! BIG sales between PHX and anywhere as well as nationwide deals, even holiday fares.....Hello US! People are flying if you offer them a good product....I'm afraid if anyone looks inside CCY....you'll see all the furniture gone and just a phone on in the middle of the floor!!!
