One exception does not mean a problem is solved. Women still earn less compared to men. There are still far fewer female CEO's in comparison to men. While having a female POTUS will be a huge step it does not mean that sexism disappears over night. It will be something that young women can look at and realize that it is possible. Same goes for minorities. Racism still exists.

Everyone has jumped on the 'Vote for Change' rhetoric while not defining what changes they will bring and defining a platform. Change for the sake of change is stupid if there is no plan.

Yep....but the reality is 'one of the above' will win and we need to be very careful about not choosing with emotion like so many have the proclivity to do.

We could start by doing a few things...first - why just two parties? Why primaries? Why not have an election where Hillary and Obama and Edwards and Guliani and McCain and Huckabee all run? May the best man (or woman) win. Abolish the electoral college, or if we can't do that, allocate the percentage of the states electoral votes to each candidate. Let's say state has 10 electoral votes. The GOP candidate gets 60% of the vote in that state - the democrat gets 40...give 6 of that states votes to the GOP candidate and 4 to the democrat. Let the electoral votes reflect the TRUE feelings of the people of that state. While Kansas will never be a state to decide an electoral vote - there were 6 votes...My vote pretty much just didn't count. In 2004, Bush took 60% of the vote - not surprising, Kansans have been voting against their own best interests for decades. But that meant that in essence, 40% of us ended up casting a "protest vote"...it counted for absolutely nothing. If a "blue" voter lives in a predominantly "red" state, it gets to the point where you don't even want to vote...you know it's a waste of time.

So, by your rational, the fact that blacks flew in the Air Force in WW II that means there was no racism in the US? The fact that Rosy the Riveter was working a mans job during WW II means there was no sexism in the US? And just because in 2009 we will have either a black or a woman in the highest office of the land that will vanquish that particular bias. How quaint.
