So, you're OK giving up on something you're not vested in, but still don't want to give up on Medicare or Social Security?

Seems to me the hypocrisy label you're so quick to put on La di da may be a bit misplaced.
He has no reasoning or logic, only justification.

It's not his fault or mine that you ended up where you are. Like me you need only to look in the mirror to see who is ultimately responsible for our respective positions in life.. EVERYBODY (With notable exceptions for those who are born mentally or physically challenged) comes in to the world naked and leaves in a box or urn. What that individual does in between is largely at their own hand.

OTOH you see envy and jealousy and seek blame for your situation.

You really don't know my situation since I've never really talked about it.  Therefore you are making assumptions.

If you must know I've never collected unemployment.  The occasions I have gotten pink slips in this industry I've been able to transfer or have a job waiting for me.  Having worked with guys who were employed by companies such as Eastern, Braniff, Pan Am, TWA etc I knew early on not to depend solely on an airline pension.  So when some of my coworkers would go out any by toys I would put the money into a 401K and a Roth.

I AM to blame for my current situation, I should have anticipated the downsizing and made plans for more education and made more of an effort to retrain and rebrand myself. I should have never gotten involved with a reformed heroin addict. I did and now I pay the price. Actions like elections have consequences.

May I suggest running for Congress.  Then you could be sanctimonious as you want and not have to worry about any of your wishes coming true.

There needs to be a certain level of fairness. If you stopped those programs instantly you'd collapse the economy and possibly starve an entire generation.

Philosophically, It never should have been created and implemented. Same for the latest and not so greatest program called ObamaCare

You do realize that the SS workers pay goes towards the pensions of those that are retired?

To say that you can opt out of it would mean that Social Security would collapse completely. Tell you what, when I'm dead and gone, I'll give this Ross Perot wannabe my vote.

I have been asked actually.

Acctually it's for 2016 cycle and I haven't said no yet.

Our Republican Congress Critter won relection and has stated this is his last term. Meaning no incumbent.

I'd NEVER run as a Republican or Democrat. That leaves Libertarian ans while they are the fastest growing 3ed Party the chances of winning unless their is a dramatic event is not very good
I know how to create a stir, but when you do that the media gets out it's custom made anal probe. The only way to beat that is to release the skeletons from your closet up front. Skeletons are kept in closets for a reason and I don't know if I want to deal with all of that.

When you raise enough funds to be competitive you're like the Fed. Printing up IOU's that people expect to cash in. When you serve the public interest IMO there can be no Quid Pro Quo crony capitalism. This is partly why we have what amounts to a Politburo instead of a Congress

Politics is a contact sport.

Best joke I've seen in a long time. Most politicians would cower in fear and cry for their mommies at the very first experience of any serious "contact". Everyone can be "tough" by distanced typing. You offer the masked avatar of a hooded terrorist....so how many times have you been shot at?...Ever even fought?/etc? 😉 I'd take far less exception if you didn't so arrogantly presume to be the face of all Libertarians here, btw. We're not all pretentious buffoons and only wannabe "tough guys", and by no measure do masked terrorists ever amount to such...even in the internet/Fantasyland.

No matter: To most of the posters here: Thanks for the evening's laughs, enjoy your fantasies, and take care/be well/etc. None of our collective nonsense here makes a bit of difference anyway. 🙂

Goody for you. You offer an avatar of a worthless, cowardly Irish terrorist. That's hardly representative of the Libertarians. You want my vote? Go take on Britain on an actual battlefield. If you live, we'll then talk.  😉 As an American?...I've not the slightest use for ANY chickenshit terrorists that won't directly face their enemies in battle.

"Acctually it's for 2016 cycle and I haven't said no yet." Consider that at least one Libertarian, in even just the immediate area says NO to your self-indulgent, childish BS. Good luck with finding much of any votes elsewhere..."tough-guy-armed-but-masked-terrorist"....I've never found myself much enamoured of "wannabe heros"....I've seen far too many fresh graves in recent years for any such childish nonsense to be at all sustainable. A ski mask is for skiing. Learn to love life, or at least go actually FIGHT, or just get lost....Period. A personally-fighting-soldier-Teddy Roosevelt you sure-as-hell-ain't...and as an American Libertarian...I couldn't give a rat's arse less concern over Ireland's terrorist scum....Got it?...Would-be politician?....And you can damn sure keep your "open borders"....

How 'bout run as just a sporting clay then? I'll gladly take my chances with even just a 12 gauge against some masked and heavily armed, wannabe "tough" terrorist at the local club.  😉 You dream of votes?....Why should I even respect you? It ain't like you've ever directly and personally put your pathetic little pink arse on the line for anything (IE: Win= Live/Lose =Die)...Avatar-terrorist?

In all fairness to whatever "argument" exists here sparrowhawk; I think it safe to say that the immediate minus vote came from "Ms Tree", since, from previous and long-ago conversations, you at least have some slight concept of what the above line means,...even if only conceptually...while that sad creature can't possibly have any...not that you have any from personal expereince, but still....

Twice, with a 9mm semi automatic if you must know. The cops dug the slugs out of the tree next to my head. When your Ex doesn't pay her supplier they tend to be very aggressive in their collection practices.

I boxed some and was a bouncer in a strip club for 2 years. Sparred with a Canadian Middleweight in my late teens. He was Canadian Champ and I couldn't get near him often enough to maul him with my 50 Lb. weight advantage. Was a war resister in 1972, was planning on going to jail but as fate would have it they called up to 89 but my number was 283. Turns out I was a non interventionist then and now.

I am a proud supporter of Liberty and the IRA Provo's desire to be free of the Brits and have one united Ireland. I make no apologies as the very same country tried it here in 1776 and we had a better outcome. I was a regular donor to Irish Northern Aid and proud of it.

As far as Physical contact goes, politics has little of it. If you ever want to be good and tired at the end of the day try the mental aspects of contact. Verbal Jousting is just as exhausting as physical jousting, maybe more.
