Tariffs

Hypothetical situation Wease....If democrats were in charge and passed a bill that would add a 20% business tax on most businesses, would the company pay that tax or would they add it to the cost of their product to the consumer. Here , I'll make it easy...would they

A) Pay the tax as their patriotic duty
B) Pass the tax on to the consumer

Now...if a company imports a product from Switzerland, and the president places a 39% tariff on it, would the company

A) Pay the tariff as part of their patriotic duty
B) Pass the tariff on to the consumer

If your answers are different - why?

This is why I say that when Trump "wins" with tariffs, Americans pay more.
The reason you always present "hypothetical situations" is because the real world shreds your lunatic ideas with a swiftness.

I’m sharing this one because I think the tiny group of people who post or comment here are Retirees and one in particular seems scared 😱 about things. 💰

The ideas behind what the Trump Administration is doing is to drive more manufacturing which in turn brings in more revenue for the Federal Government. That money can potentially begin to pay down the Federal Debt lowering both borrowing costs and interest payments.

On top of that it seems the President may have a plan for those new Tax advantages. Lowering Tax brackets and the new $6000 write off for Seniors 65 and older I’m betting will be extended and when the Politicians finally do negotiate to shore up Social Security even if we see a small percentage cut from our benefits it won’t be as devastating because how Taxes are collected in the USA will have been revamped to accommodate.

After BREXIT and now this new Trade Agreement I’d be surprised if the EU isn’t dissolved by the end of the decade?
I hope so. The EU is nothing but an attack on the sovereignty of member nations in the name of globalism. It was inevitable it would eventually fail.

I personally don’t like their agenda since it’s nothing but an attack on individual cultures. It’s a soul crushing idea to try to make everything and everyone homogenous.

Not to mention that’s it’s an abysmal failure. Proof positive when we saw all those people waving other Nations flags when they feel threatened. 🇲🇽 🇵🇸

The invaders don’t want to adapt, they want to conquer.

I can tell you my big focus right now is a push to revamp property taxes.

I don't want to abolish them for one and only one reason. I don't want the wealthy buying up all the land tax free. That is it. That is literally the only reason.

However I also don't think people should have to pay the government for the privilege of living in a house THEY purchased for the rest of their lives. I mean, my uncle lived in a home the previous generation built. So his family has had to pay taxes on it for 2 generations? I mean seriously, what the f*ck? Talk about government being a blood sucking leach.

So here is my proposal. You can own up to 1000 acres tax free. Anything more you must pay taxes and those taxes should be raised to discourage massive land grabs.

Not a bad thought but I’d go with this one. Anyone over 65 should no longer have to pay Taxes on any House they declare as a Homestead.

Once I reach Retirement age I should be unshackled from Taxes and that should even include Sales Tax.

I obviously accept that I’m going to have to pay Taxes on my 401K withdrawals since I chose not to pay them while I was working.

I’m not sure I’m too crazy about the idea here because of that notion of a flood of people moving down and snatching up everything they can get their hands on.

Maybe 🤔 a fix would be rewarding long term Florida residents instead of a blanket no Property Tax?

If someone has been a Florida resident for say 7 years and is over the age of 65 they can become Tax free?

Well that is certainly an idea. There are obviously many ways to tackle this problem but old people on a fixed income losing their homes because they can't pay a never ending extortion racket... that sh*ts got to stop.

I VERY MUCH agree with you.

I was also thinking about what you wrote on passing on a House Tax free to the next generation. Maybe that could be a different type of exemption. A generational Tax. Meaning you pass on a House when you die to your heir and if they choose to Homestead the Home to them they get a 20% discount on the normal Homestead rate if there’s no mortgage attached?

I think Seniors need the relief more than the young who should be still working.

Revamp income Taxes to a consumption Tax. You want to buy foreign made products you’ll pay a Tax in the form of Tariffs. Buy American 🇺🇸 instead and there are no Tariff expenses.

BTW Tariffs are paid in multiple ways. A portion can be paid by the consumers, the Manufacturers, and the Workers who make the products. Supply and Demand dictates who pays.

Example: If Coffee ☕️ prices get too high people stop drinking so much Coffee. Then less beans get picked and/or prices are lowered to get people to buy. Brazil 🇧🇷 has a high Tariff rate but Costa Rica 🇨🇷 doesn’t. So people buy Costa Rica because it’s a lower cost. (All common sense for educated people)

Who pays the Tariff? Ok let’s explain.

You have two Car choices because you want a luxury vehicle. 🚗

Cadillac
BMW

Both without a Tariff cost $70,000

Trump slaps a 15% Tariff on those BMW’s

Germany 🇩🇪 wants to pass that 15% Tariff onto the American 🇺🇸 consumer adding $10,500 to the cost of their car

The Cadillac is now the preferred choice of the American 🇺🇸 buyer and Germany 🇩🇪 sees a massive drop in BMW sales to the USA 🇺🇸

Germany 🇩🇪 still wants to sell Cars to the USA 🇺🇸 so they eat some of the costs of those Tariffs. Maybe they try to pass along only 5% of the cost and are modestly successful. Some Americans are willing to pay an extra $3,500 instead of $15,000?

Maybe their sales are still soft so they lower that pass on to 3% or $2,100 extra? Maybe they can only catch 1% or $700? Maybe they can’t catch anything at all and decide to eat the entire cost?

Question 🙋‍♂️ is does the German Car manufacturer make enough profit to still be able to sell their Cars into the USA? 🇺🇸

Maybe not since both France (Airbus/Wines) and Germany (BMW) aren’t too happy with the Trade deal.

Or they can build some factories here in the USA 🇺🇸

But then is that still really a BMW?

The sad part that Americans can’t understand is that the US Treasury is their (Our) Bank Account. The US Debt is our Credit Card. And we just told the World 🌎 if you want to do business in the USA 🇺🇸 we’re not going to be cheap for them any longer.
