Teamsters get new TA for Ramp

as a UAL employee i rather take IAM over IBT all teamsters is here for is too try and get IAM to get us everything we lost back... Contract they got CAL is garbage and not to forget as soon as IBT came in to rep mechanics they shut down a bunch of stations and furloughed a bunch of employees what makes you think they wont do it to the ramp stick to IAM which is run by former ramp workers....

IMO, I think Bob is 100% correct. This is a 3-way trade-off. Teamsters give the IAM the ramp in exchange for hands off Mechs. The weakness shown from the IBT (in collusion with the company) ensures the company that inside (cust. svc) will be non-union. Most of UA/PCE are very unhappy with IAM but prefer to be unionized and was considering IBT. Very few CAL (inside/reservations) would ever consider a union. If the IBT had lived up to their reputaion, there would be a good chance that inside ground workers new UAL would have voted them in. Otherwise, why wouldn't the company give CAL/IBT/ramp what UAL/IAM/ramp currently have? CAL ramp will eventually get it regardless of which union. It's a wash for IBT, they continue Mechs (with a donation from IAM to recoup organize fees). A wash for IAM, they trade app. 9k PCE for CAL ramp. HMMMM, looks like a win for management (and a good share of inside/res employees) they end up 9k employees ahead for non-union. Just my 2 cents worth.

WOW EZ-

you complain about DPS that replaced AMS that you and cornhole let the company impose on the membership, 2 ocassions in 6 months or 3 in a year. Yes you made empty loud mouth threats "We will grieve it !!!!" How did that work out for the members that got walked off? It didn't. I don't advocate any attendance policy but I gotta say ND saved a hell of a lot of jobs accross the system because they had the guts to fight and modify the DPS to work towards the member's benefit. Under your system, which you let be imposed, occupational injuries were allowed to be counted against the employee. Thank you ND for making that modification.

As for the TA at CAL- its a company dream come true................................... did you write it? It smell of you.

EZ,
Got a question..... are you an advocate for eliminating your work? The reason I ask is your handle is endorsing jobs cuts.... Forcing more customers to use automatic machines and in the long run will i'm sure its not a good thing for your classification. I'm sure if your not happy with your union Jeff will be more than happy to eliminate your job. If your intention for an inside wish of turning the clock back to before being nonunion. You may wanna rethink calling your self "at will" as your handle to let Jeff send you on your merry way right out the door.....

All I know is that a lot of things for us are tied into this contract. It looks like we will have to agree to this deal because I think that Jeff will not bargain with us until an amalgamated contract with one union is in effect. The IBT reps were in town this week and explained the reasoning for this agreement. Like I said before, you have to take this deal for what it's worth. Our pay increases (2 for this year); retro payment; and profit sharing is tied into this deal. People will #### and moan about this deal, but I don't want to go into this coming year not having anything better, because we were seen as holding for a better deal. Jeff said that he's not going to make deals until the labor issues at integration are settled.A first contract (and the remarkable speed of it) is always not the best, but it puts us in position for a better deal along the road. The more I talk to the IBT, they want to own everything below the wing. That's is their goal, and I think that we have more ramp than UA. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that fact, but they have much more people working upstairs than we do.

The IAM will be coming after us hard since they lost at DL. I think some reps will be coming to our hub (or have been there already) trying to sell us on the IAM. The comparison sheets are being circulated around the breakrooms, but really, can you blame people who have never been in a union, and about to pay dues, why they should switch? There is a bigger picture at work here. Sure, I would have like to have some stronger scope, or another week of vacation; or some other things, but like I said, put yourself in a CO ramper's shoes. Take what you can get now and see what happens when we vote and bargain for the bigger contract. I'll bet the IAM will be pushing for an election soon.

P.S. I don't think that UA will get back the money they lost on their next contract. I think that Jeff is going to play hardball. JMHO

Dude, you give me way too much credit. You must have me confused with someone else. I will reply to your post anyway.

1. AMS? Not sure what that means but I think you're referring to our contract that Mr. Canale negotiated. Our contractual language simply stated that employees could not be disciplined for legitimate use of sick leave.
2. 2 occasions in 6 mos/3 in a year was a guideline only that the company used. Of course every case is judged on their personal circumstance.
3. I agree, I'm not an advocate of any attendance policy especially when it comes from my union, whom I pay, to dictate to me without my voice being heard.
4. I don't know of ANY employee that lost their job due to dependability. None before unionized, before the point system, nor after. Guess it's working ok. BTW, I understand it's a huge problem for your airline, US Airways. How's your arbitration cases on dependability working for you? It's going on 2yrs now?
5. As far as the TA at CAL. That's a decision that my brothers and sisters will determine for their own best interest. I will respect their decision, as I respect all of my new co-workers. Sooo looking forward to the new UA!

Respectively, EZ

Thanks new UA for the incentive of 6 months perfect attendance. I could use a new car!

My "handle" is endorsing job cuts? LOL! I'll explain it to you US Air employees as the new UA employees understand the sarcasm of it. It is anything but easy for the travelling public. They have added so many "pop ups" that it takes 1 employee per customer 5 minutes longer than if the employee could just check them in. The employee is still checking the customers in. The only difference is that we stand on the outside of the counter next to the customer.

I have no intention of being an "at will" employee. I'm looking forward to the many choices that will be offered. I'm not one to turn clocks back. Those of us who have worked in this industry know the changing environment. You have to let go of the past and make the best of the future.

Just to accept a contract just because of a few pennies can cause a loss of many jobs. Look at the cities US Air closed after our last ratification. The IBT Scope allows contracting and transferring of work. The Letter in the back offers very little protection as the company can begin to furlough in JAN 2012. Looking at the Aviation Dept of IBT there are Too many Captains. They think, because they have done walk arounds the aircraft they know the job of the ramp, or better yet because they standby in a boarding area and sweet talk gate agents with their brassy bars they know their job. I got news for you they just want to represent you to use ramp and agents as fodder, or a sacrificial lamb to be led to slaughter, to better their already sweet contracts. As for the mechanics they sold out fuelers, cabin service and even their own ground equipment mechanics to sweeten their contract and line their pockets with a few silver coins. The IBT Aviation is headed by a guy that worked for a freight operation, he has no creds in my book for a passenger airline employees union and his advizor was the guy who caused the summer from hell. How many people did his actions hurt from loading and unloading cancelled trips?

There is a big difference between our point system that cornhole and his crew let be imposed by USA and the one that was implemented by UAL. The ND guys over there had the knowledge to modify the point system to reach an end that protected jobs. What did Cornhole and his crew get for it................................ nothin'? The ND guys at USA will take care of that next year under section 6.

I noticed you called IBT brothers and sisters, does that mean you are supporting the IBT, AKA the 2%ers? They pulled out of the AFL-CIO so that they could cannabilize other unions.

I don't have you confused with someone else.

I wouldn't let the ibt scare you in to voting in a P.O.S. contract. The only reason the negotiation process was quick is they want their dues money. And that's it, not for your benefit, I can guarantee it. If the contract is not to your liking, vote NO. Make them bring you back something you like, that is the reason you voted them in. Not to let them use catch phrases like" this is only our first contract" or " we will get them next time".

All I will say is go to CAL-UALMechanics.com to get the truth. Check out the forum. The ibt are crooks. Only interested in dues and getting their failing pension plan funded. GT Davis, Denmm

You have got to be kidding! Your not living under the point system your beloved “ND Guys” negotiated for us. It protects no jobs! The letter gives the company the unilateral right to contract out all of our PCE work. Your agreement was imposed on you by the company. Ours was negotiated by the ND. We have been waiting nearly two years for an agreement lets hope they do better for you at USA.

What jobs did they save? Doesn't the IAM web site say that they have to mediate their cases now though the NMB and now the NMB doesn't have anyone to mediate them? It's been almost three years for some. Why can't they arbitrate them like the previous AGC's?
