All I know is that a lot of things for us are tied into this contract. It looks like we will have to agree to this deal because I think that Jeff will not bargain with us until an amalgamated contract with one union is in effect. The IBT reps were in town this week and explained the reasoning for this agreement. Like I said before, you have to take this deal for what it's worth. Our pay increases (2 for this year); retro payment; and profit sharing is tied into this deal. People will #### and moan about this deal, but I don't want to go into this coming year not having anything better, because we were seen as holding for a better deal. Jeff said that he's not going to make deals until the labor issues at integration are settled.A first contract (and the remarkable speed of it) is always not the best, but it puts us in position for a better deal along the road. The more I talk to the IBT, they want to own everything below the wing. That's is their goal, and I think that we have more ramp than UA. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that fact, but they have much more people working upstairs than we do.
The IAM will be coming after us hard since they lost at DL. I think some reps will be coming to our hub (or have been there already) trying to sell us on the IAM. The comparison sheets are being circulated around the breakrooms, but really, can you blame people who have never been in a union, and about to pay dues, why they should switch? There is a bigger picture at work here. Sure, I would have like to have some stronger scope, or another week of vacation; or some other things, but like I said, put yourself in a CO ramper's shoes. Take what you can get now and see what happens when we vote and bargain for the bigger contract. I'll bet the IAM will be pushing for an election soon.
P.S. I don't think that UA will get back the money they lost on their next contract. I think that Jeff is going to play hardball. JMHO
