The Canadian Helicopters Shaft

monkeys, baboons, snakes, jackass''...they''re all the same animal right? I sure don''t want to think we''re leaving any one out.

I spoke to my lawyers today and they advised me not to start a why I left Canadian thread, especially if I used Bob Mackays name in there. However, they told me that it was possible to voice my opinion in a constructive way, which could not be viewed as slanderous. They said to use acronyms wherever possible and that should keep me and anyone else who comes on board safe from unwanted lawsuits.

So look in the near future for a thread on it.

ooh, Canadian and Acro bashing all in one post. Am I in heaven or what? Pinch me this must be a dream.

By the way, is M. Seniuk your engineer in Ven. this tour?

This has got to be one of the saddest topics ever posted, and without even a human fatality involved.

That a large company, and industry leader, once so worthy of praise from within and without, could come to such a pass with a change of ownership is an almost incomprehensible tragedy. Knowing many of the players, then and now, goes a long way to proving, once again, where ''the buck stops.''

You may not be able to make a silk purse out of a sow''s ear, but you can sure as hell make dogshit out of honey! The sooner the prow sinks below the horizon, the better for all concerned.

This is a sad thread. As it turns out, a few guys at CHL have just received letters from the company. These are the ones that decided to not sit on unemployment and wait for the call. The jist of the letter is that 2 weeks pay as well as holiday pay have been kept, and will be subtracted from the $5000.00 owed for this training. So bottom line is that they are on the hook for the full amount. So not only lay these guys off, but don''t give them the money owed them when they need it the most. The one page contract states that you forfeit any wages or holiday pay if there is an amount owing against the training bill. If you don''t sign, you do not get that first break that one needs so desperately as a low time pilot. Unfortunately there are many others willing to sign if you don''t. I guess all one can do is say beware, this company will hire you with this $15000.00 training bond, and possibly lay you off and try to collect the money from you and keep the money that you had worked hard. They will terminate your employment and still try to collect. These people felt that by signing a 3 year deal like this that it would guarantee 3 years of work. Not much more to say. What an extremely sad situation when a company like this acts in such an unjust way. Take care all. Hope you are having a great summer.

Coolhand ------ I'll make this short and sweet:

1) Go see the Labour Board (FREE).

2) Then see a lawyer specializing in Labour Law (most have the first 30 minute consultation FREE).

3) This 'indenturing of empoyees' for training was quashed by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1968. This a matter of and recorded in Canadian Case Law. The aviation industry is the only industry that still 'pulls this trick'. Get informed!!!

4)Do not sign ANY apprently legal agreement without consultation with a lawyer BEFORE you sign it. If you do otherwise you are STUPID!

How do I know the above? I was part of that Supreme Court Case in 1968. It wasn't held 'in camera' and the results were in all Canadian major dailies of the day.

If that doesn''t work, get some allen keys, a phillips screwdriver, and help yourself to a radio package for your homebuilt.........

I''m a little confused (well OK maybe more than a little.) If you get laid off don''t you get your pay and holidays settled within the next month? So what were they holding back.
It is a big top heavy company and it is just possible this is a mistake from accounting. Hopefully he tried the direct approach. Lawyers are way to expensive for a small claim. I had a similar beef with CHC INT over a 76 checkout and my buddy the lawyer told me to suck it up. Maybe win the battle but lose the war. Thats a big bridge to burn early in the career. They didn''t get the money for the 76 checkout though. Accounting accidentlly paid me out in full when I quit.

Deuce Bigkow ----- they are attempting to retain those monies as a downpayment towards apparently owed money to the company. Labour Board, if they have the paperwork, will tell the company that they must pay and give them 30 days to do so. If they don''t pay the Labour Board will issue a cheque of their own and handle the company through government lawyers.

The rest is illegal and there are labour lawyers that will take such cases ''pro bono'' (as in free and get their costs upon settlement from the courts). If anyone goes to any lawyer but a lawyer specializing in Labour Law, then you are talking to the wrong type of lawyer.

OOOOOOH ..... how I want to put my two cents worth of experience in here too!!

Where are all the true loyal company loving CHL employees hiding? I have expected to hear someone respond and defend the companys good name? Are there no positive responses? Please tell us why the company has these pre-industrial revoloution standards for low-time employees, we''re all willing to listen to another point of view here????

Nice topic, I was one of the Pilots in 97 the keep as slaves around. In penticton the fill your head with the perfect world and then you come to Edmonton and refuse to take Block monitors in a spray ship (restircted cat) to the block without Crashworthy seat and seat belt to the block you are the trouble maker. Or the tell you every maschine has a engeneer with it and you end up in nowwhere with 5 maschines and an apprentice who has to drive ervery night for 4 hours to have the logbook signed.
Or the work you in the hanger for 14/7 and then send you fly spray already burned out, and then the wounder when things happen.
THis is the modern version of slavery.

407, I think they don''t speak because they are true and loyal followers''s of ______''s group. And ______''s got them brainwashed or held tightly by the short and curlies.
I honestly would like to hear something positive from someone still inside the walls, to see if they have learned anything from the past. A smart management team would have by now.
