Are they charging for water also? And if they are, let me guess, they will not allow you to bring your own on. First case of a person who gets dehydrated will get rich with their lawsuit. Flying coast to coast 6 hours, and a person gets dehydrated because they don't have any money on them and US doesn't accept plastic. Can't bring a bottle of water past security, got to buy that water that costs $5 at that newsstand. US Airways is making Southwest look like the Lexus of Airlines, while US Airways is a Used Yugo. I think in a Yugo you have more legroom too than on US. I paid $318 RT from PHL-SFO back in 1982 and that was a bargain at the time. They should get the fares in-line where and what they should be today.

Well let's see here - just priced Phila - Providence round trip departing July 7th, returning July 10th. Total fare on SouthWest was $177 - US lowest fare was $435.

So - why in the world would I fly on US?

Somehow - charging more than twice as much as the competition - and then charging me $2 for a bad cup of coffee on a 6:30AM flight doesn't seem like a smart way to "Change the way we do business" now does it?

If you are going to charge me a premium price - then give me a premium product. Certainly people don't expect to buy a Range Rover for a Smart Car price - so why do airlines think that people should be willing to pay higher prices for less services?

Selling all the cans of soda in the world isn't going to fix this situation for US, or any other airline for that matter.

I concur. Its one thing to pay a higher fare and get much better service, it another to pay more and get less. You are getting screwed both ways. I've seen in many routes that ticket prices are more than the competition with crappier service. Honestly if I was going to pay $5K for a round-trip first class transcon ticket on US and they have no glassware?! It is a complete joke of an airline.

Not suprisingly, WN is enjoying the moment.
According to Herb, Usairways is the best thing for Southwest airlines.\
WN also put out a full page add in the newspapers comparing the cost to fly WN verses the "majors". The base fare was the same, however, you would end up paying close to $100 more than WN because of the extra fees.(for snacks, drinks, bags, etc.)
I want US to do the right thing, however, I am not convinced that their initiatives are the best move. More like a knee jerk reaction, than a comprehensive plan.

I guess it is all in your expectations. And of course how you look at it. When I fly I expect transportation (fast the reason I fly) NOT service. I've recently flew Alaska Airlines twice, both red-eye returns. It's terrible. I dread it. But I LOVE the fact that it gets me back home FAST. I don't bother the flight attendants and don't accept their snacks. I try and sleep. I appreciate the on time arrival and lack of hassels. I certainly am not expecting anyone to serve me!

Guess you missed the point completely. That was an example. My point; transportation is the key, not service. Transportation for a fair price. Not necessarily a cheap price. But a fair one.

No you missed the point. All airlines provide transportation from A to B. Its what you get for your dollar that counts. US airways will get you to the same destination as another carrier however it is often times not the cheapest and does not deliver the same quality.

That's smart, cancel 2 leases of A330's. International is the money maker for US. They would be better off retiring 2 767's and put A330's on those routes. I am quite sure the higher lease rates would easily be absorbed by fuel costs. What losers Parker and Kirby are! :down:

Somehow I always KNEW that those A330s would never make it to the property. I didn't think it would play out this particular way, but I was certain they would never get delivered here.

At the very least water should be free in a glass, you even get that when you sit down at your local Denny's. That would at least cover out butts for any potential dehydration lawsuits. Just my 2 cents...er bucks.
