The Changes to Come

Yes, those handling the liquor and liquor money were Piedmont employees.

They used a routing system so that the liquor & money would be picked up at those stations where we had catering services such as our hubs. The f/a's knew when and where the liq would be picked up and swapped out. And yes, it was all locked with a Master padlock.

I'm assuming that in those days the catering agents were actual Piedmont employees, right?

Do you really want the out-sourced catering employees of today handling the cash from the inflight sales?

Ahem... Where have you been?

We employ, and utilize our own Catering personnel in all the hubs… except for PHX at this time! Incidentally… these jobs are protected contractually until at least the end of 2012.

The Catering facilities and personnel are already in place to implement this procedure… the question is… will the Company have the intellect, and insight to actually take advantage of their own departments?

Because we do it now…doesn’t justify doing it in the future. Does anyone know the approximate cost of carrying one pound of weight… leg by leg …all day long on the typical US daily A/C routing?

OH NO !!! Soon they'll bring back weight check for the F/As ---LOL !!! 😱 😱 😱

And little more food for thought…

We currently pay a little less than 25 cents per unit for a can of Coke, or other soft-drink.

This price is at discounted corporate wholesale. Now… if we are to charge $2.00 per can for soft-drinks… if my math is correct, wouldn’t that be a 700% profit margin?

This figure is outlandish! It is however believed that a little less than half of the passengers will actually make a purchase! Still… even at these numbers, we are talking quite a significant revenue source.

I don’t drink pop, but I’ve seen vending machine prices around $1.75 in some hotels. Maybe more, maybe less.

Here’s the kicker; the VP of Inflight just told a group of FAs in CLT that selling soft drinks will actually mean less of a workload for crews, since nobody will buy any.

Hmmmm...

We'll see in August! ...

My own prediction is… that you will essentially cut the current free consumption in half.
Now...add the work load of collecting, and securing the revenue... and you will have about a wash!

Will the Company be getting rid of skycaps when the $15.00 bag is implemented?"

Isn't that is protected work in the IBT/CWA Passenger Service Association CBA.

Will it only be able to be paid by CASH ?

Will ramp jobs be lost since passengers will not be checking more than one bag?

Somehow when Doug is involved the "little People" suffer most.
Piney, in some stations yes, in most of the stations no. They will have a USAirways computer out on the curb with an agent to charges for the bags. However the skycaps will still tag the bags and carry the bags. The skycaps are not part of the IBLT/CWA.

Rose

Have you seen the contract? I'm hearing that it is IBT/CWA covered work.

Are customers still permitted to tip?

Ground workers such as skycaps get royally screwed in these situations. What's happening to the cleaning crews? How do the changes affect those who can afford it least?
Yes, Customers are still permitted to tip and I hope they do because quite often they are perceived as getting paid by the company and do not get tips at all. Las Vegas is getting hit the hardest, in Phoenix the cleaners are an independent company. Hopefully some will take the voluntary 30 day leaves which will be offered, and for what its worth Piney I discovered that contrary to your belief you are well thought of as one of our elite passengers.

Rose

Instead of nickel and diming pax for an additional $20.00/$30.00,a pop why don't we just raise the fares that amount?????I'm sure there is some bean counter that can figure out how much more above and beyond per ticket price we are getting, on the average, from pax by charging for the "extras"....most folks would pay that amount rather feeling like they are getting gouged for the amenities...

That is saying Tempe is Intelligent. Now we all know the truth in that. I hope that they prepare the FA's with change need for them cokes. Maybe the FA's will get lucky and no one buys a drink. Why don't Parker & Kirby cut his salaries in half, that can buy alot of cokes.

Pardon my ignorance.

It just seems to me that whenever I see a catering truck attached to an airplane, is says something like "LSG Sky Chefs" on the side, and is manned by people who don't exactly speak English with Oxford -- or even Pittsburgh -- accents.

Sounds good an agent collecting the fee at the curb. I sure hope management is not going to give the customers the runaround

spirit airlines charges $...

And as I witnessed this past two weeks, passengers willingly pay for that on NK. By the way, our tix were $700 round trip, not $9 each way. But we got there on time and got back (with thunderstorm delays in PHL) on time into ACY.
