The Charlotte Observer

It's going to be interesting to see how LUV manages its rising costs versus US lowering costs. Anybody got a Ouija board?

I know alot of people who have flown WN once, very few who've flown twice.

This is all funny reading. Luv going to lose money, U going to be competetive agaist Luv.

I bet Luv can take the 1 gate at clt and make better use of it than 3 of u's gates. The city dreams of having Luv as they want another carrier to be there in case U fails. This is why Luv is profitable, it's because of their efficiencies. Nothing else. From aircraft, to crews, to management, to gates. They just don't waste money and if something is not profitable they make a change.

The preditor management of the so-called legecy carriers has cost them millions and millions of dollars. Those days are gone and if not it should be. Before working at Ua I use to live in Tx and flew Luv quite often, it wasn't a bad experience. No fc but have you flown fc lately? Our planes are turning to crap unless your on a newer 777 or 47 and even then some are in need of repair.

know alot of people who have flown WN once, very few who've flown twice.

You must not get out much or have a very small circle of acquaintances. It's like people who live in manhattan who don;t know a single soul who voted for George Bush. Well, give me a holler one of these days and I will introduce you to a whole lot of us who swear by them, (rather than at them).

No ouija board but I did have a magic 8 ball til all the fluid leaked out of it. Best bet is they will keep on doing what they have done for 34 yrs.......paying their employees well, carrying a whole lot of passengers, and making a few bucks in the process. How can they pay their people well AND charge low prices? They have a very efficient way of doing business.....and are always on the lookout for ways to make things more efficient.

Here's another walkup fare example: 587 mi TPA-RDU vs 507 mi TPA-CLT

There are even rumors that the City of CLT is going to provide "incentives" for US Airways to relocate its HQ and other offices to CLT.

The bottom line.

You can not compare WN to US. There is no
comparison.

33 years of Profits vs massive loses..

They know what they are doing, they know
how to do it.

The execute their plan with near perfect precision.

On top of all of that they have two things US Airways
has none of. Time and Money.

WN has lots and lots of moneyand plenty of time. US has none.

WN can come in, bone them and watch them bleed
to death and it does not even put a dent into their
profits.

If WN goes to CLT and they offer $29 fares to BWI, MHT, PIT
PHL, MCO, TPA what does anyone think is going to happen to
US?

THUD!!

fresh off the press from the Wall Street Journal...

Daniel Covel: "I am one of those people who flew Southwest because of the cheap fares. I even attended some conferences based on cheap Southwest flights. But I do not love Southwest. Flying Southwest is like taking a bus: It doesn't make you feel special, but it gets who were you want to go. Southwest has big negatives: no seat reservations, cattle-call lineups, overbooked flights, no frills on long flights, etc. If other airlines can come close on price, I will jump planes."

More in Friday's edition...

Well what may be in Usairways best favor in CLT is two things
international traffic ..transatlantic and caribbean etc
Cargo ....none of which WN is in any position to exploit..
Yeh WN may get some traffic but I will not hold my breathe till WN start going into internatonal destinatio..

Of course that maybe the only reason other majors may want Usairways out....its not necessary to compete with LCC but to get
DCA/BOS/LGA gates and the caribbean and other international destination

Mine says that US will be gone before its CASM is within shouting distance of WN's.

I'm sure that WN will run in to cost trouble in the future, but it won't be because of anything US did.

Somebody really should invite those guys up to tour the Airside terminal at PIT before they toss any more money at US.

Folks, SW is slowly becoming a non issue as far as US is concerned. One year ago, this would have been "not good" With Us cost structure very close to being in place, soon across the board there will be a level playing field. In fact, sooner rather than later, SW will have to address it's mounting cost structure. This was really reflected in US response to SW announcement about its PIT arrival. SW is slowly gonna have to compete on a flat surface.

Dream on BOi,and I have some ocean front property in Arizona for sale!!!

Things are looking pretty dismal for USAIRWAYS with Southwest entering Pgh...Watch Pgh go down to about 10-20 flights a day like another small town, after Southwest moves in.....

USAIRWAYS will probably be gone before Southwest can dominate Charlotte...
