Dont think so, because oil is still not as scarce as A&Ps. Fuel costs arent really a big deal unless some carriers have hedges that allow them to get fuel cheaper than others. That doesnt seem to be the case and the carriers can pass those costs on to consumers. If anything the increased cost of fuel, that we need to pay in order to heat our homes and drive our cars to work, that we have not been able to pass on to our employer for the last 8 years, is even more reason why we need to hold out for more.
In Europe they've had $5/gallon "petrol" for years but does AA say to its mechanics there "Look we have to pay more for fuel here so you need to work for less"? No, they pay their mechanics over there around $45/hr plus they dont take back $3000 for Medical, or only pay them half pay for the first two sick days or only give them one weeks vacation for the first five years. So if they dont get to pawn off fuel costs on their mechanics there why should we do it here?
As fuel goes up it makes mass transit more economical, and the airlines are a form of Mass Transit.
Besides most of the price increase is purely an emotional response to whats going on in the Mideast. By the Summer things will likely settle down. Especially if Obama pushes harder for developing alternate energy.
