Things AA "can" afford

AA already announced a partnership with the American Red Cross on March 11th.

And JAL is flying relief workers & shipping relief supplies into Japan for free.

<_< ------- Delta pledges One Million $$$ for Japanese relief! ------- So where are you "American"?----- You know by using that name, it carries a great responsibility that goes along with it! Not only does it represent an Airline, but also a great people. So when I hear the term "sky Nazi" invoked, connected to that name, it rubs me in the wrong way!------- This thread is call "what AA can afford", so step up to it AA, and match Delta's offer, and live up to your name!!

Absolute nonsense.

Your post is a perfect example of "damned if they do, damned if they don't." You'd be one of the first to complain loudly if Arpey had announced a donation of money AA doesn't have.

The problem facing the Japanese people isn't a shortage of money from Americans. The Japanese economy is the third largest in the world behind the USA and China. This ain't like the Haiti earthquake. Japan has cash, in fact, the Japanese government injected $183 billion (yes, billion - 183,000 times the amount of money Delta is pledging) into their economy. Money ain't the issue in Japan, it's the possibility of nuclear plant meltdowns that might make Chernobyl look like a walk in the park.

Aflac quickly announced a million dollars to the Red Cross to try to atone for Gilbert Gottfried's sins over the weekend.

Think about the circumstances. Aflac is headquartered in Atlanta and claims to be Japan's largest health insurer. After Aflac's contribution, of course DL is under pressure to do the same (my guess is that DL carries Aflac corporate traffic between ATL and NRT).

Anyway, Delta is late to the party. AA annouced on Friday (yes, the day after the earthquake) that it would award AAdvantage miles for gifts to the Red Cross:

Took DL until Wednesday to come up with something?

New Runway in ORD partially paid for by AA and UA

Hedged fuel, bag fee;s, improving economy, mergers.......we ain't makin any jack! That's BS

AA (and UA) filed a lawsuit a few weeks ago to try to stop the construction. What do you suggest AA do? Stop flying to ORD? Airport improvements are often paid by the tenant airlines, and this is no exception.

I agree. I'm all for calling BS when I see it but AA is really in a position here where it will be criticized no matter what action it takes. I guess you can't please the irrational.

Yes I was actually flying DL on ATL-BOS last night and the wonderful (non-union) personell got the flight out despite the weather and were very cheerful and professional despite bad weather and angry passengers. ATL was a mess but fortunately I was on the final ATL-BOS last night which was the only flight that didn't cancel.

BA and JAL bring revenue to AA so its interesting you say you could care less. The fact of the matter is every dollar AA spends on employee compensation and benefits is a dollar taken from aircraft, facility, and other capital projects that would both benefit passengers, and generate revenue to provide job security for employees. I'm sorry if your unionist mind doesn't see it this way, but I'm in reality and the fact is passengers pay your salaries and sustain AA so you should have regard for passenger interests. AA lounges and Flagship Suite/Next Generation Business Class are a dated and uncompetitive especially with inadequate catering, wine/liquor, amenities and disgruntled FAs.

I'm not going to denigrate AA employees but I do think many should just be glad they have jobs and have fared remarkably better than your counterparts at other carriers. I respect that AA has vowed to keep maintenance work in the United States and also flies fewer RJs than DL or UA for example, but the minute the unions become unwilling to help AA remain visible I have zero sympathy for the jobs lost due to outsourcing to regional carriers or farming out maintenance.

Josh, Let me start by Thanking you if you are a frequent flyer at AA.Now let me ask you when you fly AA, Dont you love it when you get to the airport, board the plane, pushback on time and get to destination as quickly and safely as possible. This all happens when we the employees at AA do their job.We the employees are American Airlines!! Not Executives or VP's or CEO's.All the do is make bad decision after bad decision and get bonuses for doing it.This company who you defend so much does not know the value of every employee. The agents who have to put up with passengers who think they deserve it all. The AMT's who have to work around the clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, Holidays when they can't be with there families and have airplanes ready in the morning. F/A's who are there for your safety and are all trained to save your life.Pilots who fly the airplanes and are responsible for so many lives.I am an AMT trying to provide for my family and I take pride in the work that I do.Hell, High Management probably gladly pays their Mercedes Mechanic $100.00 an hour to fix their vehicle and the worst thing that could happen is their call stalls on the side of the road and If I do something incorrectly and sign for it, it can cost me my job, my career and even jail time. Forgive me if I ask for a raise, but I have been here for 23 years and all of us AA employees for many years now have tried our best to push this company forward and all they do is blame us for their failures.Just something to think about when you get your free first class seat upgrade..Who did the inspection on this aircraft last night? Who will serve me my breakfast? Who will fly this plane? Who loaded the bags on time and I wonder who boarded all these passengers on this aircraft in less than 30 minutes?

WE DID!!! The Employees of AMERICAN AIRLINES!!

Sorry if off topic, but I'm sick of people blaming unions, Like CEO's aren't overpaid in this country.

Unfortunately, you'll never get this Joshie Poo-Poo clown to quit twisting the knife at every available opportunity just because he can do so with impunity - that's why I have him/her on ignore. It's a shame people keep responding to his posts as then they show up where they wouldn't otherwise.

I understand your frustration with the twit and your efforts to set the record straight but unless you are no-union you are nothing but trash to his/her kind - like some others we've unfortunately become acutely aware of since 29 November of last year.

He/she reminds me of an attention-whoring child - don't give in to the taunts.
