How have the first couple of US Flights to TLV and back been? For crews and loads?

Here is a Philly Inquirer article
http://www.philly.com/philly/business/2009...o_Tel_Aviv.html

Seems to have gotten a nice reception by the Jewish community both in Philly and throughout the US that wanted other options from the East coast besides CO (from EWR), DL (from JFK) and El Al (from both NYC intl. airports).

Any employee reports yet? How senior have these gone? How have the crews liked it? What was (if anything) resolved in the dispute about the F/A crew rest?

I am interested in the link to the article where they were talking about the Rabbi and family who made the trip from Hawaii-PHX-PHL-TVL flying using sombody's companion passes from PHX? That really sounds fishy to me, figured the first couple of flights would be sold out? Let alone 4 people traveling on a companion pass even if they were with the employee. I thought usually new flights were on the embargo list for travel for the first month or so.....

And does anybody know how US is handling the additional security screening? I was in EWR today. My gate was next to the gate for the TLV flight. They had the entire gate area blocked off for the special screening.

Greetings from Frankfurt!!Same in phl. Gate A19 is the dedicated gate for TLV. When it is not used for TLV it is not blocked off .But when TLV is being boarded ,they block it off. A special removable frosted glass wall has been built. I am flying TLV on sunday .Really interested in working it. Will let you guys know how it went.

There is an additional security checkpoint inside the boarding area that all passengers must go through in PHL....it is not TSA, it is a contracted security firm conducting this. And it is per Iraeli government procedures.

 I am so pleasantly surprised to see how much attention to detail US is spending on this new service. Every new European and Int'l destination should be given priority - something most other airlines due as a standard practice. Isreal is a unique market and security is paramount - or US COULDNT fly there.
Now US mgmt step up and do the right thing and provide proper crew rest area for your F/A's! Its a shame it had to go to arbitration... sadly this is so typical of US mgmt.

why has there been such sporadic arrival times for the TLV-PHL leg? According to flytecomm, Sunday it arrived at 11am, Monday at 630am, and Today at 430am

Catcrew shows the TLV-PHL flight arriving on the 3rd at 5:08, 4th at 4:24, 5th at 4:32, 6th at 6:33 and 7th at 4:27am.

Friends of mine were on the flight on July 5. They left the gate about an hour late due to a computer issue. During that time the lights were kept on and they played some video. Water was only given out on request during this time.

They said the 1 interpreter was severely overworked, as there were a lot of young hebrew speaking only passengers. The regular F/A's seemed to get short with the kids wandering the aisles, even during non-service times.

My friends also seemed to think that there was only 1 beverage and food service, and that was the pre-arrival breakfast. While they did sleep for the majority of the flight, they said people were WAY too happy to see food when they came around for that service. Either that or the 1st service was inedible and the snack was not offered as per the service guidelines. They said that breakfast service was pretty inedible.

He was a little disappointed to have to pay for headsets, and didn't try out the new Panasonic system as a result.

Additionally, they said there were a lot of Orthodox pax of different sects on their flight, but there didn't seem to be as many seating "issues" as there are on ElAl flights to/from JFK and EWR.
