Sisters and Brothers,

The Local 580 Executive Board and Negotiating team have unanimously voted to file for Federal Mediation with regards to our stalled Section 6 negotiations with America West Airlines. The Executive Board has been frustrated with the progress in securing wage, benefit and work rule improvements and job security protections.

The Local 580 Executive Board is and will continue to be concerned with each and every employee with regards to their futures with US Airways. We have some grave concerns on the negative impact this merger will hold for the Fleet Service Employees at America West Airlines. A great percentage of our Employees may be negatively impacted by this merger when all is said and done. With your support we can work through many of these issues. It is apparent that when Doug Parker assured that your futures would be bright he wasn’t referring to the Fleet Service Employees. He was looking in a mirror. His wages and benefits have skyrocketed, yet our wages and benefits must remain “Cost Neutral.â€￾

There is a very important survey coming to your house within the next week and we encourage you to take a few minutes to fill it out and send it back to TWU Local 580 in the prepaid envelope.

Fraternally,
Local 580
Executive Board

It really makes a statement when a Union files against the Company for employees futures, instead of ONLY against another Union!

Cost neutral.....When will this end? I think Doug needs to look at his management team for savings. Lots of chiefs and few indians.

Too True!! Some would think to take care of those who load and physically keep the new USairways moving! Not that their willing to fund their bonuses ;) to make things better the profits would go up! Talk about more $$$$/bonuses! Where is some real business sense?

Is this why none of the TWU people will give us US IAM Fleet employees any ideas on payscale and benifit #'s?
Sounds to me like DP and CO are stalling the negotiating process because they anticipate the IAM getting the nod from the NMB after single carrier status is rendered.
Just my opinion. Would love to see a better deal than what the IAM has "gotten" for us, but truth in the matter is a paycut under TWU. NO MORE PAYCUTS!!!!!!!

maybe you will keep all your cities instead of contracting them out.
Dont let the IAM in or your gone.

It's time to look at the big picture, and not only at purely, selfish interests.

Under the IAM contract, field stations can,and WILL, be contracted out. That would mean over 2,000 of our fellow fleet service workers loosing their jobs!

Further, contract workers are normally paid less, have no benefits to speak of...and, since it's not their company, don't care about what they do or how they do it. Alaska Airlines is finding out the hard way in Seattle where they fired the entire ramp in favor of contract workers. Aircraft damage, delays, luggage problems, jsut to mention a few, are costing the carrier $$$$, not to mention the eroding of a loyal customer base.

If we allow Parker, Hemingway, and CO. to work with the IAM to facilitate this foolishness, it will only be the beginning of another downhill slide back into bankruptcy. The new US Airways will follow in the footsteps of the old. The only difference being; the next time, there won't be anyone around to US. This will not matter to DP and the rest of the corporate bureaucrats...as they will have more than enough $ in their bank accounts and investment portfolio's to live very well on. Question is... what happens to the rest of US?

simple, we get furloughed yet again and collect unemployment and find another job most likely!

This is why you need TWU, they will not stand for the outsourcing they have made a stand and will not give in to the company like IAM did. TWU stands for unity and members need to realize this. The IAM sold their souls for money and their big paychecks like the AGC's have recieved. The only thing IAM has done for their members is taken money out fo their pockets, and raised dues.

Does the TWU have a pension or any type of retirement plan? You will never get any support from the east coast without some kind of retirement plan.
P.S> Parker will sell us all out if he can,it seems like he is another Siegel in the making!
