UA poaches another AA senior exec

AA was not driven into bankruptcy.

agreed 100%. mitt robme wrote his (in)famous op-ed in the wsj, begging the big 3 automakers to destroy the uaw.

the gist was: we wrote the dod gamn law, take advantage of it. BK is a business tool.

personal BK? was made more stringent under w. bush. you filed for BK? you are scammer. no? ok, you are an idiot who doesn't know how to handle money.

corporate BK? parameters loosened. the unions forced this fine company into BK. labor is at fault.

the most valuable executive aa has had is beverly goulet. she flawlessly oversaw the merger/transition process. unbelievable job, well done. she is legacy aa.

now that m & a is done for awhile, she also may be the most expendable.

with all that taken care of, the job nocella had now becomes vital. aa will now fine tune routes and equipment. dl/nw had a massive headstart, we'll see how well aa does. ua/co, well...that is exactly what we don't want.

I honestly very much hope he doesn't.
I'm not saying he wasn't a smart guy but LUS had some lean years when he was aboard again no one is indispensable. What was brilliant was how Parker manage to do these mergers to create this airline

How many had a choice?

True, in that Doug placed his inner circle in place, who in turn put their own inner circles into place. Some of them were more than happy to go, and just like older union employees, were just waiting for the right buy-out offer.

Jim it was more than that. They had an upcoming balloon payment that would have cut in deep to their cash on hand which was 4 Billion. They were in deep debt with no real sellable assets outside the core business. They had 200 Pilots retire and another 500 on deck because the Market had finally given up on AA. They had tons of old leases and aircraft that they were still responsible for paying and yes they had Pension liabilities that were dramatically underfunded.

Yep, AA might have had cash, but with no access to credit, they would have burned thru that $6B in no time absent a filing.

Denying that AA needed to flush the toilet is just that -- denial.
