Continental is just positioning itself to take over United's pacific routes after UA goes Chapter 7 later this year.

Ding! We have a winner! The only thing I'm unsure of is if they'll take UA as a going concern (when UA is up against the wall and about to file) or cherry pick assets in a Chapter 7 filing.

As for LCC I agree with eolesen. If they want to be a real LCC they should get on with it. They can become the Ryanair of the US. I'll never fly them again, but hey, different products for different people. As far as I'm concerned they have no business in *A anymore.

United is going Chapter 7 . Devine intervention couldn't stop it now. CO will gladly take United's pacific routes after UAL goes belly up. AA will also gladly take NWA's pacific routes when NWA and Delta go Chapter 7 after they merge. When USair goes Chapter 7 , it will look like a buzzard family reunion as AA,CO,SWA, and Jetblue feast upon the dead carcass.

No jealously here folks, just reality.

While the demise of competitor would be to AA's gain, I must ask you why you are so gleeful at the possibility of tens of thousands losing their jobs.

Oh,like these other airline employees would care if AA disappeared? In the "new" economy, it's dog eat dog,no mercy out here. There are people out there who would love to see AA employees lose their pension,jobs,etc. Some,people will gleefully cheer if AMR files for bankruptcy. I'm just returning the "LOVE".

Wait next!! LH-BMI-MAYBE VIRGIN AIR into star at LHR and BA won't be nothing in LHR....

If LH buys BMI or combining Virgin Air into Star... This will be a power house in LHR.... More slots and more routes up against AA-BA.

I heard this through a very reliable source that the next step is BMI-VIRGIN into LH and United-CAL-Air Canada.
It's called Power house against Delta and Northwest and American and BA. This is why CAL went with Star...

Once again smart move on CAL.. Another smart move is on it's way.. Hang loose! Richard Branson is for this tie up. You don't think he is going to let Delta and BA kill him in LHR?

AA will always still be around. It will be -United and Delta and American Airlines...... These are the 3 major carriers that will be around even in todays current oil prices. Just less workers and planes .. Unless Northwest unions screw up t his merger and both die in the merge process....

I would certainly not love to see AA people lose their pension or jobs and suspect I am not alone.

Soleil Securities analyst James Higgins said AMR could still be forced into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the next 12 to 18 months, but stipulated that its improved revenue and cash position, as well as its capacity cuts, make that much less likely.
