Confirms Timing of Decision About Retiree Medical Benefits

CHICAGO, March 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- An independent examiner Thursday found that United Airlines (OTC Bulletin Board: UALAQ - News) told the truth when the company said it had not made a decision to seek changes to retiree medical benefits before July 1, contrary to allegations made by certain labor leaders.
"I conclude that United's decision to seek section 1114 relief was not made before July 1, 2003," the Examiner wrote in his report. He also said, "I found no evidence to support the suggestion that United had a financial incentive to induce flight attendants to retire between May 1 and July 1, 2003."

"This makes clear what we said all along -- we told the truth," said Peter D. McDonald, executive vice president - operations. "The allegations from the Association of Flight Attendants were a distraction that led to a colossal waste of time and resources, and the examiner's report is an emphatic repudiation of those baseless claims."

The proposed modifications United is seeking are designed to bring the medical benefits of those who retired prior to July 1, 2003, more in line with future retirees and with the marketplace. The company is beginning negotiations with retirees' authorized representatives on necessary modifications to benefits, and looks forward to moving ahead toward consensual agreements with retirees.

Will Amfa quit spending money on a losing drive at AA and standup for their members at United or continue to hide belind the scenes and send out letters for smoke and mirrors attempt to ride the coat tails of the other Unions!

How is our Retiree health care at AA funded? Oh yea, current employees have monies deducted from their paychecks to pay for it. And they have been doing so for over 12 years!

CIO,

How pathetic!

As we fight for our retired ‘Brothers and Sisters’ that are going to be ‘hosed’ by the BK process, you have the audacity to infer that we should not do our duty to try our very best to protect our mentors. Even though we do not have a ‘legal’ obligation to spend time and money, we are ‘STILL’ going to give it our best shot!!!

You may think of yourself as a ‘Unionist’ but your postings and preaching’s do not adhere to that philosophy.

Had our previous bargaining agent given us the opportunity for a contract vote and a strike vote (as is customary), then we may be in a different place today. The only thing that would bother me is that if I had to sacrifice my job in a strike action that it would benefit the likes of yourself and your week kneed followers. Those that believe the road for financial success of the ‘Company’ depends on the unwashed sacrificing their pay and benefits just to ‘HAVE A JOBâ€!!!

As an ex-member of the AFL-CIO, I con not see how the mantra of the ‘Strength in Numbers’ theory works if you do not put it into practice. How is it that an AFL-CIO affiliate can be allowed to put a ‘No Strike’ and ‘No Cross’ clause into a contract and still call itself a union?

AFL-CIO=Strength in DUES!!!

The Pension Plans have been an issue for quite some time now in respect to the United personnell since entering bankruptcy. The Pension Programs were said to be in jeopardy back this past summer of 2003 and a question was directed to the AMFA National as to what they were doing to protect the pensions of United personell at the Sept. 12, 2003 AMFA info meeting. The only responce the AMFA National could provide to the question was that the pensions would have the protections provided through the Pension Guaranty Benefit Corporation (PBGC).

Now one would think that a more thought out responce would have been provided since this should have been an issue of great concern to the AMFA since they had been awarded the bargaining unit for the mechanics of United. They had taken the reponsibility of these peoples lives, while there livelyhoods were before a judge in Bankruptcy Court...! They should have had a plan of action to protect the Pension Plans of there future members that they now represent at United...! It is evident that AMFA's only concern was the solicitation for the members of United, so they could get their hand's in their pockets....!

Ok I'll bite.

And what does the TWU plan on doing to protect our pension, other than sacrificing over $120,000 in wages and benifits over the next 5 years?

Can you tell me why, with all the concessions that we gave, that TWU officers continue to pocket $3 million a year from the company?

After XXXX Years of the ALF-CIO sucking dues monies from their membership, I also would expect them to ‘step up to the plate’!!!!

Are all the ‘retirees’ now ‘AMFA’ members also and do not deserve the support of the organization that they spent their 'life long' dues to?

Good show of ‘BROTHERHOOD’!.
Emphasis on ‘hood’!!!
