Has anyone heard AA is keeping long haul transcon, international and carribean flying and giving away the rest. Also most of the 80's to be phased out. Heard this from several senoir flight managers. Any knowlege of this?

There are too many reasons to list, why this suggestion is pure BS.

Do you actually know any "flight managers". Your lingo says you don't.

Well anything is possible, but I think the probability is very, very low. I used to be a check pilot and interfaced with flight managers quite a lot. It was never my experience that flight managers were clued in on impending moves. Actually, they seemed to be the last to know. Of course that was at TWA. It was my experience that Union heads knew long before flight managers, in fact flight managers got their info from union people. Then again TWA is gone and maybe that is the reason why. Now if you buy into one, you need to up your meds.

This rumor has been around since shortly after the flight attendant strike in the early 90's. From what I was told, Crandall made a presentation at that time to financial analysts in New York that the long-term plan for AMR was to move all domestic flying except transcons and long-haul heavy (such as 757s DFW-YVR and DFW-ANC) to AE. This would be accomplished by moving the S80s to AE's certificate.

As I understand it, the problem with Crandall's grand plan was a little thing called the SCOPE clause in the pilots' contract. Until that changes, nothing larger than a 50-seater can be flown by AE. If that is not a correct "short-version" of the Scope clause, I'm sure that someone who knows can post the correct info.

Hat's off to the pilots who have maintained SCOPE throught the years!

Keep it up!

Doesn't AE already fly the 70 seat version of the CRJ???

If management could get their way, AE would be flying the "RJ Super 80"!

FWIW dept...

Talked to an AA B767 driver, NYC based, at the end of June, and he told me the same story. He heard of in training (DFW) mid-June timeframe.

3000 fewer pilots, MD80's would be parked/sold.

I thought is was rather far-fetched, but here it showed up again...

AA pilots contract up, or does management at AA want to open it early?

I'm happy to see you guys over there keep your pension, most important as a lot of us are in the twilight of our careers.

See, you guys should have never depended upon a company to provide for your retirement years. I have an independent retirement plan. I'm going to be a burden to my nieces and nephews.

It's a fine, old Southern tradition to have crazy Uncle Jim in the upstairs back bedroom. And, you hope to god he doesn't come down in his underwear during your formal Christmas sit down dinner.

We do not have "flight managers" at AA. So who did you talk to?
