US Air, ALPA Slam Aircraft Sale Rumors

ARLINGTON (Aviation Daily) - Divisions within the US Airways’ pilots union regarding a concession deal are still surfacing as the airline and union leadership moved quickly on the weekend to squash rumors that could have made pilots vote against the deal. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and the airline say that some pilots have been circulating messages and Internet postings saying US Airways plans to slash its fleet size. A US Airways spokesman said this rumor is “nonsenseâ€￾ and was based on a two-year old notice from the airline’s previous restructuring. “We have been told that sources for these rumors include some pilots who are campaigning against the tentative agreement the company has reached with ALPA,â€￾ the airline spokesman said.

flight attendant union leader from Pittsburgh “has also e-mailed the posting without first confirming the facts,â€￾ he said. US Airways doesn’t usually comment on rumors, “but this one is so outrageous and patently false that we felt the need to correct the record,â€￾ the spokesman said. On the weekend, ALPA’s US Airways Chairman Bill Pollock said the “blatant inaccurate posting of an alleged aircraft saleâ€￾ came from “individuals wanting to smear the ratification process.â€￾ Pollock said he is aware of “attempts [by] some individuals to engage in a campaign to discreditâ€￾ the concession tentative deal, and warned pilots that their literature is “riddled with inaccuracies and misleading statements.â€￾

You can say and write whatever you want on this Post..

Here is the bottom line.. If the company, and thats a big if, if the company had no intention of cutting the fleet then why, why why were they so hot to change the 279 rule in every contract?

Now I know you are going to feed me some company line about leasing companies taking the airplanes etc etc etc in chapter 11.. You know what? Thats crap.. Simple as that..

Everyone knows damn right well if the 279 remained in the contracts and a leasing company did take back say 20 737 all of the unions and I mean all of them would understand that and work with the place to get the number back to 279 as soon as possible.. Thats called working together..

No the company was very specific.. They want the right, the god given right to reduce the fleet based on what they feel is the correct fleet size..

Don't be fooled by any other post or reply.. The company fully intends to reduce the fleet size well below 279 at the earliest possible time. You can take that to the bank..

It appears that the "757" incident was simply a series of innocent postings (innocent in so far as none of the posters knowingly posted false information). I don't consider that rumor mongering, just a series of mistakes made without malice.

I completely respect your opinion; however, the new routes and service that they have posted can not happen if that is the case.

How do you see all of this new service/expansion happening with a great
deal less aircraft to do so?

The right to decrease fleet size was put into each groups contract for a reason. It surely wasn't to take up space. Management does have a "plan" and it is plain as day!

It's very obvious where they will get the aircraft for the new routes.........The Pittsburgh downgrade to a focus city. As of February PIT will be losing approx. another 20 flights on top of the 25 they are losing in November.
And I agree the language states they can drop to 150 aircraft. That line was put in there for a major reason. Use your common cense.

Wasn't it our own illustrious USA320 that was fanning the flames by telling everyone that there would be out of seniority furloughs and the parking of all but the precious Airbus fleet? For shame for shame!

Stick to the script USA320, no ad-libbing!
