This has been suggested in several recent articles about airline consolidation. US needs to keep its costs low, focus on improving its own operation, build up its international reach all while the others go through the headaches and costs of merging. Then US can enjoy a better revenue picture from consolidation with a stronger balance sheet and a bigger/more reliable operation; all without the costs of merging.

They are predicting CO and WN will post profits for 4th quarter '07....will everyone else post a loss? It's been said AMR/AA will post a loss....I'm anxious to see what US results will be next week.

Yeah, the future sure looks bright.
The Future's so Bright I've gotta wear Shades!!!! :groovy: :cop: :afro:

Seriously, maybe they should just sit this out and try to pick up some of what everybody else has to shed. I don't think this place can handle anymore merger activity unless we totally get rid of this HQ, management, and adapt the other airline's systems (IT, Res, Planning). Part of me wishes it was NW just because "in my opinion" that is the only other airline where we compliment each other. Not much overlap, they have what we don't, and we have some of what they don't and they're just about as bitter as we are.

I think a DL/NW merger will be the down fall of Delta. Should level the playing field 😀

We can easily adjust our present system to cover everything domestic ... once the pilot thing is worked out. As we tie the AW/US systems together the combinations (city pairs) are limitless. We can pick up assets as others divest. And keep adding international flying as it comes available.

I see very hard times a head for those that merge.

I'm not trying to be tacky because lord knows there are some things at AMR that need changing, but everything you have posted that needs to be done has needed to be done since day one. So far, all the customers and employees have seen is talk about what "we are going to do." Keep costs low, focus on improving the operation, etc. All of these have been mentioned.

Unless everyone on this board is just blowing smoke, none of the talk has been put into action. You are now 2 years in to this merger. You have not managed to merge/combine one single unionized work force. For all practical purposes, there are still two separate airlines with one name. When is all this good stuff going to happen? Why would a merger between two other airlines have anything to do with moving the process along that needs to occur at US Airways? If nothing has jumpstarted it by now, why a merger of other airlines?

Kind of like the Pan Am/National merger and everyone knows where that led.

US is like the drunk fat girl at the bar at closing time.....Somebody will eventually pick her up for a quickie.

Well no, there is nothing similar between the DL/NW possible merger and the merger of PanAm and National other than it involves two U.S. airlines. All similarities end there.

If anything I would say the USAirways/America West merger would have more similarities with the PanAm/National merger.

It is obvious (and very sad) that the highly talented, intelligent, world class airline employees of U.S. Airways are caught in the out of control grip of NON AIRLINE people...just as NWA was,in the country's worst airline LBO in history (Checchi, Wilson, KLM, and Diane Fienstein's husband).

I wish you the very best, as we (NWA) have learned the hard way...it is out of our control (unless you FIGHT to the END), short of a massive take it to the streets (with the risk of jail, which doesn't seem to bother the BRAVE FRENCH and ITALIANS!)

All Americans need a serious wake up call.

As for the above post..Jimnex...you are right on the money!
