That was a depressing article but nothing new. I doubt the Alaska deal will go through because nobody likes us. We have nothing to offer. We're just a chintzy, outcast airline with very few assets and a lot of angry and bitter employees. We're not popular with the passengers either. Of course, the fun hasn't even begun. Wait until August 1st. Of course, if we merged with Alaska and had their mgmt, that would be a great thing. I bet Mike Flores would oppose it because Alaska has rotating reserve!

I love how they say Seattle could be US's gateway to Asia. Please, they couldn't even handle one China route. And before anyone says, it was fuel, it was fuel that delayed that route, I say 🙄 Unfortunately, it looks more and more like the "selling of assets" is the future.

That doesn't mean that there can't be 'deals' made behind closed doors to benefit each other.

Sell them to WHOM?

Nope, I think that in this environment, airlines will just function until they run out of cash, then liquidate. I'm not saying it will be LCC, but right now, there's no money to restructure (chapter 11) and no buyers for assets (what would an airline sell that's anybody wants?).

You may see some companies TRY to go chapter 11, but with no one wanting to invest in airlines, it will be shortlived.

There may still be some kind of cooperation between companies, like the UA CO deal, which is far less than a merger. I think the idea of merging, as in the past, is also not going to happen because of money and the tight credit markets. Even banks and other financial institutions are hurting. Imagine a CEO of a failing bank trying to explain to his shareholders how he financed something to do with airlines.

In terms of the larger industry Tempe was always a wet fart. But being the riverboat gamblers that they are, Parker and his crew thought they could do otherwise. It must be a frightful realiztion that you've got to run the airline that you have and to cease the wet dreams about mergers and acqusitions.

Please do NOT compare Mssrs Parker, Kirby, et al to "riverboat gamblers". What an insult to riverboat gamblers. They at least gamble with their own money, not the livelihoods of thousands.
