You had me until you said this...
"Take the fall" is a relative term. As a front line employee, I know that Doug will never have to "take the fall" for whatever goes down in the eyes of his employees because WE SEE OURSELVES taking the fall if US Airways tanks. Doug, having maneuvered himself into independent wealth status, never REALLY has to worry too much about taking the fall. Sure, it will be a humiliation to what seemed to be a major talent (I disagree with that estimation, BTW,) but he has the option of finding a beautiful place to live in luxury for the rest of his life and not worry about the bills being paid.
He won't take the fall, IMHO. WE WILL.
As unpopular as he is with many who work for US, he will ultimately take the fall for whatever goes down. His job comes with a huge amount of responsibilities.
