What's new

US Airways stock at $4.44 a share.

You had me until you said this...

As unpopular as he is with many who work for US, he will ultimately take the fall for whatever goes down. His job comes with a huge amount of responsibilities.

"Take the fall" is a relative term. As a front line employee, I know that Doug will never have to "take the fall" for whatever goes down in the eyes of his employees because WE SEE OURSELVES taking the fall if US Airways tanks. Doug, having maneuvered himself into independent wealth status, never REALLY has to worry too much about taking the fall. Sure, it will be a humiliation to what seemed to be a major talent (I disagree with that estimation, BTW,) but he has the option of finding a beautiful place to live in luxury for the rest of his life and not worry about the bills being paid.

He won't take the fall, IMHO. WE WILL.

Not just a 52 week low - an all-time low for LCC. An AWA shareholder who had their shares convert to LCC at the merger and still has the LCC stock has seen the value of their holding plummet nearly 50%.

Jim

I still would not buy this as a long-term holding until there is proof that the oil bubble is going to burst. Great stuff for the bounces on the morning after, however. After hours trading has shown over 14,000 shares traded. There were some pretty big lots there.

If an AWA shareholder with converted LCC stock failed to cash in their shares (pre-Dougie DUI) when the price was through the roof and held it til now, they deserve to lose money. Fools! Buy low, sell high.

So, you would be okay with someone describing you as "underneath" someone?

'kay.
That adjective really bothered you huh? I guess it is descriptive. Sharktooth my dear we are all, in life, "underneath" someone. If you haven't come to terms with this yet that could be where your problem is. . . <_<

There is a shareholder meeting on June 11. It would be interesting to see a push to get rid of Parker. I would be willing to buy LCC stock just to go and stir up some stink.

I don't have a problem with where I am. However, your characterization of someone (yourself, apparently) with a linear, you're either above me or below me, view of life is someone who is a consistent loser, from experience, without exception. To ignore the multi-dimensional aspect of our lives, restricting oneself to a two-dimensional universe, like a locked refrigerator, is pathetic and a curse and cheap-shot to whatever god you worship. Shame on you, sir.

"to ignore the multi-dimensional aspects. . . characterization with a linear. . . " blah blah blah blah blah. Sharktooth are you pulling my leg. Surely you can't be serious. Good night. At least you gave me a good laugh.

Yeah, I guess I would answer you like I answer the wounded from Dick and George's marvelous adventure, enjoy life, whatever is left to you from the overseer's. To someone who is so wounded they cannot even use english to reply, I am sorry for you. Like the maniac in 9c, laugh away and thank the USA and my fallen friends for allowing you to speak without fear of retribution. Have a good night, our little ignorant thing.

ah, i meant take the fall in terms of "ego" and being "perceived" as a failure. You are right, everyone who works for the company will really "take the fall". but wall street, and the business community will not blame the employees, they will blame Doug...

thats what i meant...

I'm predicting a VERY ACTIVE trading week(come Monday morning), and what that means for the different airlines(one way or another) remains to be seen.

Oil been down/somewhat quiet last week,.........BUT if it starts ANOTHER climb(heading towards $150) I think we'll see rather quickly, "Who" is heading "where".

Ali Veshi at CNN was talking about a price manipulation investigation with "dark markets" Markets that are not monitored by regulators. Enron false pricing if you will. THe day after the investigation is announced, the prices drop. Goerge Soros also quoted that these increases are speculator induced. It's a bubble folks.

Any one with links to stories like this, please post.

PHX-FA, Soros ought to know, as he is a huge manipulator in the markets and in politics. My big concern is that oil is holding at the $125 level, a key resistance point. If it cannot blow lower through $125, it will go higher from here. I thought/hoped it would go back to $80, but it seems when we (the US) cutback on consumption, the Chinese and Indians are grabbing that oil on the open market. It may be that we have reached peak oil a couple of years earlier than expected (Total Chinese oil consumption is expected to be EQUAL to WORLD output by 2012).

Oil Probe

The CFTC said in a statement May 29 it is investigating U.S. oil trading to determine whether the doubling of prices in the past year is the result of manipulation or fraud. The CFTC has been investigating the transportation, storage and trading of crude oil in the U.S. since December, the regulator said in the statement posted on its Web site.

The CFTC said its probe, which involves ICE and the U.K.'s Financial Services Authority, includes oil futures contracts. Oil rose to a record $135.09 a barrel on May 22.

The regulator, which generally keeps its inquiries confidential, didn't say when the oil-market probe will end and didn't name any companies being targeted. The details of the investigation were confidential, it added.

CFTC Oil Trading Probe Will Target Intent, Former Officials Say

U.S. oil executives told Congress yesterday that prices should be between $35 and $90 a barrel. John Hofmeister, president of Shell Oil Co., the Houston-based subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, pegged the proper range ``somewhere between $35 and $65 a barrel.''

Higher margin requirements could lead traders to switch to other markets, Lukken said today in an interview. Asked how shipping and storage operations may come into play in the investigation, he said there had been cases in the past of supply being withheld to move prices.

Ah heck, just go to www.bloomberg.com and search "CFTC"

But they do not control the price of oil. It is set in the pits at the NYMEX http://www.wtrg.com/daily/crudeoilprice.html . The "oil" execs (should be called distillers) of course would like to see lower oil costs, because that would lower their imput costs and equal greater crack spread profits. I think I read that they make the most at around $70 per barrel. Remember, the "oil" companies have to buy oil too, since we produce less and less here in North America.

With this investigation forthcoming I am left in a quandary:

Should I invest in LCC with the speculation that the oil bubble will burst?

OR

Invest in a company that manufactures and services paper shredders (as those who are about to be "probed" will want to destroy incriminating evidence)?
