Would there really only be ~100 pilots (combined) remaining on furlough? Has the change to the "age 65" retirement age finally worked its way through the system, meaning retirements are picking up again?

I believe just about all pilots have been offered recall. Some have passed - they can continue to pass as long as the recall in to the 190 but the company can then hire off the street for the 190.

The retirements are starting out East as the first group reaches age 63.

I fly with the over 60 group and I have not seen or talked to anyone who won't have to be dragged out at 65 "kicking and screaming."

Anybody know if any west pilots or F/As took east slots?

It is my understanding that 8 West pilots took the 190. The rest have bypassed. Could be a few more or less.

Do not know about F/As, but I do know we still have east furloughed F/As who took recall West, still flying out on the West system, worked with one two trips ago. The point being, there might be some shuffling around allowed with F/As, I do not know for sure, or if that has already been worked out in prior F/A recall/vacancy bids.

Welcome back to everyone and I hope are all back soon!

annddd...to offset the newly hired, US Airways also plans to fire 500 existing employees for absolutely no good reason whatsoever!!! But the new ones will be prettier and their bullsh*t tolerance will be set to zero, it's the America West way!!!!

Ah what a nice way to put some negativity into a positive thread. I figured that it was just a matter of time before someone posted something along these lines. Congrats, you are the lucky winner.
On a side note, I'm sure these 500 people who have been on the street will be glad to return to work. I was on the outside looking in for almost 3 years myself, and am glad to be back no mater what BS goes on, or if it is the HP way.

Leave Shannon alone. She was JOKING. Can you say "joke"!? How about "Exlax"? Might help ya loosen up there. Just sayin'.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!. I love it!!
Having "resigned" from east f/a ranks about 3 weeks ago this is a priceless statement. When i heard about the hiring on the radio this week I thought, briefly, that maybe I had made a mistake with leaving. Then I got my head out of the sand and thought no way!!. Sure with a few hundred new f/as I may have finally been able to hold a block after ten years which by the way included 2 bankruptcy filings, a "merger", or something like that, one 4 year furlough, one year at midatlantic making 17.50$ an hour, 3 different bases, and 2 midnight call outs for europe, but honestly who cares. Would have still been dealing with bad management, a joke of a union and the thought of a new contract that will most likely pass even though its gonna be crap.
The grass has proven to indeed be much greener on the other side of the fence folks. I still cherish many moments from my um, career at US. Im on half the meds I took while flying and let me tell you sleeping in my own bed every night is wonderful.
Good luck to all of you and be nice to those new hires!! toodles!

The company loves a certain type of employee. As you see, we have a few here.
Please don't refer to others as a "certain" type of employee. I can promise you that I have personally be screwed more than once by this company. Gone thru all of the concessions that they came up with, been furloughed, and had to relocate in order to return to work 3 years later. The one thing the we have to keep in mind is that the old regime in CCY are the ones that did most if not all of the damage to the company as well as the employees. I'm not saying that there isn't room for improvement by any means, but at least things are headed in the right direction after 10+ years of going downhill. I'm just here to do my job and collect a paycheck every 2 weeks. Perhaps you haven't been on the street trying to find another line of work that will come close to paying your bills. Trying to start all over again mid-life isn't easy for most people, so I for one am very happy for these 500 that have a chance to return should they choose to do so.
