Us Airways To Cancel 100 More Flights!

Crellin may need to go, but for other reasons than this. Everyone who called in sick without documentation for today shold be terminated for cause immediately.

Figures you would say that.

The terminations would not stick worth a darn, have to follow the steps of just cause.

It would give the majority of the folks a paid extended vacation.

I do not condone abuse of sick time, but for $15 anyone can go to their Dr and get a note.

I have to disagree...sure Cancellations on Holiday Weekends are normal, but 100 ADDITIONAL Flights canceled on top of what has ALREADY canceled?? And that's just Christmas Eve! Seems a bit excessive to me...Reporters are citing the reason as "lack of crews"...NOT Weather, which is largely the source of cancellations at Other Airlines where Weather is playing a Major Factor in their Hubs and Focus Cities. The same can't be said for PHL, CLT, DCA, BOS, LGA or PIT until right about now.

See for yourself, if anyone is Home and near their Television in the Philly area...turn on NBC 10, and tell me that "Luggage Explosion" stretching a great length of the Ticket Counters while astonished Passengers take PHOTOGRAPHS of it is normal... 😱

Police called to the -A- concourse when the CUN flight cancelled. Lets see...BZE/NAS/SXM/PUJ and a SJU flight all cancelled....estimated 1100 psgrs we (U) ruined thier xmas vacations because some sorry ass whiney U emnployees wanted to stay home for xmas. Mean ole company wanted me to work Christmas on top of everything else they did to me this year. HELLO...an airline is a 24-7 operation..work weekends/holidays unless senority dictates otherwise... In a few short weeks..,.you can have every holiday andf weekends off...U will be gone. I.m pi$$ED and ashamed of everyone of you that took it off sick..hope you dont get sick for real...as usual our customers pay the price.

They will be flyiong something else shortly..we certainly dont deserve thier patronage

Actually..I think Al should be promoted..CEO..whatever

......We deserve him......

Just as a side note...one of the Stranded Passengers that was Interviewed was a Teenage Girl that had been waiting over 20 hours since 7:30 PM LAST NIGHT...her Destination?

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA!

Oh, the Irony of it all...

Geesh 700, I thought we were getting along so well in the spirit of the Holidays.

Calling in sick when you are not, is just a form of theft from the company. If you don't condone abusing sick time, what do you think you should happen to someone who it is proved they abuses their sick time? They have let down their fellow employees and the customers who's hard earned dollars pay for their salaries and benefits, no matter how badly they have been cut.

Yep, it'll cost someone $15 or so to go get a note, but a least make them make the effort.

We are getting along, but blanket termination does not solve the problem.

If someone is abusing sick time, they get the chance to improve it, mnay people have gotten fired for sick time abuse and it has stuck.

But you have to follow the progressive steps of discipline.

Merry X-Mas to you and your loved ones. Have you heard from AS at all lately? If you do, please send my holiday greetings to him.

Nope, I sure have not heard from him. I was going to give a call tonight and wish him and everyone upstairs a Happy Holiday.

I have issues with progressive steps of discipline when it comes to situations like this. Anyone who has willing abused their sick time knows better, and damages the reputation of the company (as if it hasn't been soiled enough already), creates extra heartache and stress for their co-workers, and furhter prolongs and damages the company finances.

No matter what one thinks of the company, to put your fellow co-workers in the situation that these people did, is inexcusable.

Happy Holidays to you and yours as well there 700.

It is inexcusable, but it is human nature since all that has transpired, I am not saying it is right, just understand why it happens.

You should be thankful you are not here.

people, were lucky......... have u seen what cvg ord and msp are going thru? please !!!!!!!!!

The irony is that the employees who are mad are those who have something at stake over the future of US--while those who called in sick are likely the one who've been working under the worst part of the contract rules (junior reserve) and may even be furloughed next month regardless. Lets see, show up for Christmas trip to be furloughed in Jan. Doesn't make it right--but makes it predicatable. Employees who work at any station get to be home for at least part of the holiday. The FA's would be gone for the whole thing.

I feel very bad for the pax--may they get to destination soon. At my airline we had some of the same sick calls--just not so many to be unmanagable. Some people with the holiday off got forced to work--very bad deal. Still, it seems to be a recurring problem--one reason holiday pay is important. Plus, knowing a future lies ahead is the same. Good luck US---hope this one passes in time.

700UW,

Inexcusable is just that "INEXCUSABLE"
Human nature is one thing and the forces or circumstances that be are another...but I do not let that influence how I conduct myself or sell-out my integrity or my own sense of self-worth.

I know we have people here getting paid big money to try to take both away from us...so why give it away and comprimise one self? Does the words Honor and Integrity not come into play at some point?..or is that only a standard that we hold the proven thieves too? I see it as a two way street..and I invite all to hold their own particular situation in the lane of RIGHT...not just right for me right now as I tend to see all too often on the parts of both sides of the coin

I'm I happy about how I've been treated? or am I happy about how my fellow employee's have and continue to be treated? Hell No !!!...but then again I know my options...and being a complete self-serving JERK at the expense of others isn't even a consideration in my world.

I'm equally not thrilled about how our paying customers..or soon to be former paying customers are being treated either.

*I firmly believe the flying public needs to pony-up for what it really costs to fly...just as I pony-up the bucks for every service or goods I and my family happen to need.

However...I cannot support selfish acts of self-absorbed indulgence that are of the "All about me mindset" I don't lay out..and I won't be laying out tonight or any other night unless something really really wrong happens to befall me? That is keeping ones pride , integrity and honor in tact...and I won't be moaning about it unless the checks cease to clear...then its another story entirely.

Well put as a union man. Three reasons why it is NOT managements fault we are where we are. Right on hero of the stupid.

If management knew how to manage we would not have abuse of sick time.

And we are here because this airline has had no management.

I don't seem to recall the union's making these decisions:

Colodny’s Blunders:

· Mirror Image, imposing US Air’s business methods upon Piedmont and PSA, instead of looking at each respective airline and adapting their successful practices. Some examples would be dismantling of the Piedmont Shuttle which accounted for 32% of Piedmont’s Gross Revenue.

· Not furthering International Service and canceling the last three 767s on order from Boeing, then realizing how much money was made serving international destinations and paying Boeing a $30 million penalty to reorder the three planes.

Schofield’s Blunders:

· Business select, $50 million on wasted seats that never worked properly and we eventually removed from the 737-200 fleet. Operation Highground.

· The IAM Mechanic and Related Strike of 1992 in which US Air lost $35 million and agreeing to pay all the pilots during our strike regardless if they flew or not.

· The hiring of Joe Gorman from United Airlines. Gorman stayed a few months then went right back to United, then United started taking us on head to head in numerous markets where we did not compete before Gorman’s tenure.

· The alliance with British Airways to infuse quick cash, but not on favorable terms to US Air, BA got more out of the alliance then we did.

Wolf and Gangwal:

· Canceling all the Boeing orders and having to pay a substantial penalty to Boeing to this day the dollar amount is not known as it was a confidential out of court settlement after Boeing sued US Airways, but it is believed to be hundreds of millions of dollars.

· Closing of three maintenance bases and trying to accomplish all the work in just three bases, which caused a backlog of airplanes awaiting “Q†and “C†checks and Mod visits. At one point you could see numerous airplanes parked in Charlotte, Pittsburgh and Tampa awaiting maintenance.

· Buying back over $1.5 billon of US Airways stock instead of using the money as operating capital or paying down debt or just having it around for a downturn.

· Selling the company to United Airlines and then for the next 14 months having no direction and running the company into the ground.

· Overreacting to the September 11th tragedy and shrinking the airline by 23% and increasing costs by putting larger airplanes on shorter routes.

And this is not even counting Siegel.

And by the way, no wonder we are in this place, you are typical management insulting the employees, glad to see a manager calls employees stupid, great management skills there bud, NOT!

I hear that the serial killer who was been plaguing I-64 in Virginia several years ago was beaten by his mother.

That's why he did it. It's her fault!
