Hi guys!
During the past weekend (13-16 Nov) has been held in Athens, Greece the 123rd IATA conference to allocate slots for next summer season. Seems like US requested slots in order to begin new Charlotte-Rome (US 720/721) route, daily with 767-200ER. This would be in addition to the current Philadelphia-Rome (US 718/719) with 330-300, of course.

These are the US slots requested at FCO for S09.

Airport, IATA season, code flight, A (arrival)/D (departure), slot allocated (GMT), slot requested (GMT), period, days of operation, equipment, seats, origin/destination

FCO S09 US 718 A 06:45 06:45 29MAR 24OCT 1234567 333 293 PHL PHL
FCO S09 US 719 D 09:15 09:15 29MAR 24OCT 1234567 333 293 PHL PHL

FCO S09 US 720 A 04:10 05:50 29MAR 24OCT 1234567 762 200 CLT CLT
FCO S09 US 721 D 06:05 08:00 29MAR 24OCT 1234567 762 200 CLT CLT

Does anyone know if a CLT-FCO announcement by US could be imminent? On a side note, how many 762s does US plan to have/use in S09?
Thanks

Thanks for checking etops1. I figured it'd be unlikely in '09 anyways given that:

1. US is still short on available widebodies for next year as 3 of the A332s don't arrive until after the peak summer season and the first 2 are dedicated to TLV

2. The slot times awarded to US for the CLT flights are less than desirable. A 610a (local time) arrival into FCO would necessitate a departure from CLT around/before 3pm, which is quite early. Also, an 805am departure from FCO is rather early, though that's probably less of a concern.

It's nice to see that they are seriously looking at more European flights out of CLT though.

For the flight crew, these times are a double-edged sword.

Getting to FCO that early means maybe a quicker ride (under 90 minutes?) to the hotel as they may beat the worst of rush hour; arriving that early at the hotel probably means an extra hour waiting for rooms to be ready.

Getting to FCO that early means maybe getting to bed (even with the delays) at a reasonable "Eastern Standard" body-clock time; but that also means the wake-up call for the trip back will come at about 9 - 10 PM Eastern Time...UGH!

no problem . and yes it is nice to see them looking to clt for more european flts. expect clt to play a very big role in usairways intl expansion european and south american in the coming years . although probrably not as big as phl is going to be .but big enough.

How many 762s are there in US fleet today? According to airfleets, 10 :

Does anyone can confirm this?

CLT-FCO service would be a great idea. Id like to see CLT-MAD, BCN and few other european cities. Every time US adds a new destination from PHL, its just one more reroute whenever PHL groundstops set in. How often do you take an ATC delay on a CLT outbound?

I would love to see US maybe split European departures between CLT & PHL, operate
PHL-FCO 4-5X's a week and CLT-FCO 2-3x's weekly and do the same with other Euro cities. Vary the number of dept.'s with demand. Would that be feasible?

don't know if clt has the demand to hold a mad flt. i could very well .see fco and ams . maybe mad but you never know. alot of the other dest we fly out of phl are leisure dest . don't know if they would work out of clt. south america is a different story.

We all know CLT is the crown jewel of the us airways system domestically and we do need to add international out of there to South America pronto!

Huh? Crown jewel? Who made THAT determination?

No matter how you cut it, the moneymaker is PHL. CLT's great. It's the largest in terms of departure (thanks to express,) but it's not the crown jewel.

Seems like they tried CLT-CDG a while ago, and stopped the flight. Maybe because CLT doesn't have the international feed to support it? Maybe that's why it's going to be seasonal?

If the feed was there to go to other European destination, the flights would be there. Pretty terminals, nice runways and great ATC services does not a "Crown Jewel" make. (Just ask the folks from PIT.)

clt has extreme potential in becoming a major player in the intl market for usairways. do not underestimate the clt hub. clt is no pit.

"extreme"?

Sorry, I'm underwhelmed.

It's already a "major player in the intl market for usairways." Of course, being ANY player in the intl market for USAirways is pretty easy, since USAirways has minimal int' presence to begin with. I guess CLT is already second, and that in itself would qualify it as a big fish in the little pond that is USAirways intl markets.
